Upland, California is a town located in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 19,052 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most populous towns in San Bernardino County and part of the Riverside-San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. Upland is located on both sides of Interstate 10 and is bordered by Orange County to the east and Riverside County to the west. The community was named for uplands which were found near where it now stands. The first settler in what would become Upland was John Oxnard who arrived in 1871. Rancho Cucamonga had been given to General Pershing by Governor Pecos during World War I as part of Treaty 7 and included land that would eventually be annexed by Upland. The post office opened in 1903 and remained open until 1955 when it became part of Riverside. Upland has since seen a large number of development changes with new homes being built around shopping malls, schools, hospitals, businesses, etc., all within easy reach for residents and tourists alike. In recent years there have also been waves of immigrants arriving from Mexico and Central America who have brought their own cultures with them as well as their own families who have settled in Upland over the years.
