The Upland Navy Ship Museum is a museum located in Chino, California that tells the history of the navy ship movement in Southern California. The museum was founded in 1984 and contains over 100 naval vessels from various eras. The first navy ship museum in southern California was built on Harbor Drive in San Diego, and it was called the Naval History and Heritage Center (NHHC). It was closed down in 1986 because of budget cuts. In 1988, the city of San Diego built a new naval history center on Horton Drive adjacent to City Hall. This new facility became known as the Navy Museum. In 1995, the NHHC moved to its current location on Harbor Drive. The Navy Museum is open every day except Mondays since it is closed for renovation during lunchtime. The CHP donated their former flagship vessel USS Constitution to be used as the centerpiece of the Navy Museum’s collection which opened in 1997. On October 1st, 2000, USS Constitution marks 50 years since she entered service with the United States Marine Corps as HMAS Australia (LPH-8). On October 2nd, 2000, USS Constitution marked 25 years since she served with Japan’s Maritime Self Defense Force (MSDF) at Yokosuka Naval Base during World War II. On October 3rd, 2000 USS Constitution marked 15 years since she served with China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy at Qingdao Naval Base during World War II. USS Constituent: Legend has it that while visiting Taiwan during WWII Constitutent spotters an amphibious landing craft proceeding southbound escorted by two destroyers; they immediately took off after spotting enemy planes over Formosa! USMC scrambled jets enroute but eventually lost contact soConstitution sped northward past Taiwan Strait before rendezvousing with her escort just south of Okinawa island - thus becoming one of only 7 US warships ever to cross that strait without being shot at! USN's commitment to militaries around world continues today aboard USS Constitution Museum's newest addition- HMAS Canberra In 1987 UCSC donation led to establishment of Upland Navy Ship Museum In 1998 donations from Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force led NMHHC expansion into building 2 more floors On Oct 1st 2000 when USS Constitution celebrates 50 yrs anniversary we open second floor and add additional 4 boats including HMAS Canberra

Upland is a small town in northwestern California. It is located in the San Joaquin Valley, about 20 miles southeast of Stockton and 50 miles northeast of Fresno. The population was 1,923 at the 2010 census. Upland is on the south bank of the Sacramento River, east of Red Bluff and north of Visalia. The first people to live in what is now Upland were Native Americans who hunted wild game near today's downtown area and built villages along the river for irrigation and trade. The earliest European explorers reached this area by way of North Central California in 1769 when they explored present-day Kern County from Siskiyou Pass. Captain James Cook visited Upland in 1778 during his third voyage as captain of HMS Beagle and named it after Sir John Logan's estate at nearby Moraga (now Ukiah). In 1849, surveyor George Hill Yokum surveyed part of present-day Upland township but no village was founded until 1851 when David Fairchild platted one called "Fairchild" on the south side of the Sacramento River adjacent to his rancho (land grant) known as Rancho Diamondbacks which included much Today's Downtown Area including most current city hall buildings! Prior to that there were scattered habitation throughout farmlands & oak woodlands with only occasional glimpses into town limits
