Vacaville, California is a city in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 11,563 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the San Francisco Peninsula and is bordered by the cities of Milpitas and Palo Alto to the south and east, respectively. The Vacaville area has been inhabited for over 10,000 years. In 1853, John C. Frémont discovered gold in what would become Vacaville. The town was founded in 1856 by Stephen Halsey with assistance from George Wickersham and others who had found gold nearby in Tehachapi Mountains. The name "Vacaville" comes from Spanish vaquita (or "whale") because of its close proximity to these animals during early mining operations. A post office was established in 1860 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1914. In 1868 an ad campaign announced that a railway would be built through Vacaville connecting San Francisco with Sacramento via Atascadero; this became known as the Atascadero Railway Company's "rumble train". Construction began on October 15th, 1868 but did not finish until November 9th due to heavy rains which caused flooding throughout much of Northern California In 1870 a second railroad line called the Santa Clara Railroad reached Vacaville from Colusa Junction just north of Millbrae acrosshatched hills into Silicon Valley On January 12th 1870 Samuel Morse made his first communication from Menlo Park Station on White Pass Railroad outside Kennett Square This event marked the beginning of modern telecommunications . The town rapidly grew with businesses opening up such as general storekeepers Harry Sanger and Augustus Kelley (the first telephone installer), lumber yards Jens Jensen & Sons ( piled-logging beginnings ), hardware stores Gedney & Sons (foundry work) , attorney General Edward Humes' law office (later Ulysses S Grant's home), bootlegger Harry Slocum's Distillery No 1 (now part of Googleplex), successfully running for city council three times before becoming an independent incorporated municipality on February 14th 1889 after twenty-one years of effort . This growth led to increased noise levels thanks to traffic congestion along main streets . In 1906 construction began on Interstate 80 which bypassed Vacavile completely making it an agricultural community . within a few short years most residents had moved away leaving behind their vacated homes During World War II many factories were constructed nearby including Apple Inc.'s original Japanese plant now known as Foxconn Campus

Vacaville is a town in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 20,547 at the 2010 census. Vacaville is located on the Santa Paula Peninsula and east of downtown Ventura. The first people to live in what is now Vacaville were Native American traders who traveled along the Pacific Coast during the 12th century AD. In 1852, John C. Frémont discovered and named Rancho Vallejo after General Antonio Vallejo, governor of Mexico City during the Mexican–American War. The town was founded by Nicholas Long Beach on January 24, 1857 as part of his attempt to establish a wagon route from Los Angeles through Sonoma County to Sacramento. It took two years for Long Beach to find enough residents and build a courthouse and hospital. At its peak in 1880, Vacaville had a school and five churches: one Congregationalist and four Baptist). The town's growth slowed after World War I because of competition from larger towns such as San Pedro and Thousand Oaks; however, it revived with the opening of Interstate 5 in 1965 which bypassed Ventura County altogether
Vacaville was founded on December 18, 1850 by Captain George W. Vacaville and his family. The town was named after the Vacavilles' home in Virginia, which they had moved to in 1848. The first post office in Vacaville opened in 1851. In 1860, the community had a population of only 10 people. The first store in Vacaville was built on Main Street. By 1870, there were six stores in the town. In 1876, the first railroad station was built and it served as the main transportation artery for the community until 1945 when it became a bus stop. In 1886, Vacaville voters approved a school district that would include present-day Vacaville and parts of Camarillo and Porter Ranch. The school district became operational on October 1, 1886 with three schools: one for boys and two for girls. At its height, the school system had 26 students from 6th through 12th grades living within its boundaries In 1940, during World War II, Camp Salerno (later known as Abu Dhabi) was established adjacent to what is now called "Vacavia Park" off of Highway 101 near Interstate 575 just east of downtown Vacaville. Camp Salerno operated from 1942-1945 as a training camp for American naval personnel who were serving in World War II out of ports along California's Central Coast including Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Area
