When General Grant arrived in California he halted any construction projects that were being undertaken by local builders – this is often referred to as the " Builder's Bank ". The banks which began operations soon after were: First National Bank (1862), Valley National Bank (1863), Pacific National Bank (1864), Gold Rush National Bank (1868) and First State Banking Company (1869).

Vallejo, California is a small city in the U.S. state of California, located on the Pacific Coast. The population was 381 at the 2010 census. Vallejo is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in North America and has a rich history dating back to 1821 when it was founded by Spanish Franciscans as Villa San Pablo de Vallejo. The name "Valley" comes from the nearby Humboldt River valley which served as the original center for settlement by Franciscan missionaries in 1769-1770, part of what would become Northern California. The City of Vallejo was incorporated on December 3, 1851, from portions of Benicia and El Sobrante Counties and became an independent city under state law on March 14, 1865. It had a population of 684 when it annexed Rancho Rinconada which included parts of present day East County including Round Valley and much of what is now West Contra Costa County. In 1876 Vallejo annexed part of Berkeley Township (now Metro Richmond) to further its growth into an incorporated city with a population over 1,000 people by 1907. By 1910 Vallejo had become one of Californias most populous cities with 11 square miles (27 sq km) within its boundaries - more than any other municipality outside Los Angeles or San Francisco Bay Area
