The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the community of Victorville, California in 1951. The gift was an F-86E Sabre fighter airplane. It was delivered to the town as part of a military exchange program between the USAF and Japan. Victorville had been hit hard by World War II, with many residents displaced and destroyed. The air force offered the community assistance in rebuilding, and also donated two airplanes for use by local radio stations. Since then, Victorville has seen great growth thanks to the air force presence. In 2013, it welcomed its first US combat aircraft into service: A Boeing 747-8 Freighter that is used for cargo transport and support operations in Afghanistan. Today, Victorville is one of the most vibrant communities within flying miles of Los Angeles International Airport. Thanks to its proximity to LAX and other major airports, it has become home to a growing number of businesses and professionals who come here for work or pleasure. And although some people may still find it difficult to get around on foot or bike, there are now plenty of transportation options available including taxi services from downtown LAX or nearby hotels/ restaurants/bars/nightlife destinations like Hollywood Hills!

Victorville is a small city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 15,439 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Victorville Valley micropolitan area. The town was founded in 1879 by George W. Sutter and named for him. It became an incorporated city on July 15, 1912. The townsite that now makes up Victorville was first settled by Mexicans in 1859 as part of the Rancho Mirage land grant given to them by Mexican president Santa Anna. The town's name derived from José Altman's claim to a piece of Rancho Mirage land north of present-day Victorville which he called "El Pueblo Grande." In 1860s, prospectors discovered gold near what is now Victorville and began to arrive in numbers to exploit the potential resources. Mining operations were started soon after and early settlers brought their families with them; some continue to live there today including many who are descended from those who arrived during the Gold Rush era (1858-60). In 1879, George W. Sutter purchased 3 1/2 square miles (9 km²) of land east of present day Victorville from Manuel Nieto for $5 per acre ($27 per km²). He named his new settlement "Sutter's City" in honor of himself and his brother John Sutter (founder of Yosemite National Park). In 1912, when General Forester designated Kern County as its proposed region for special development because it had no remaining ranchos or mining claims available within its borders due to laws passed subsequent year following American Civil War, Victorville became one of several communities located within that newly designated county seat at Bakersfield. This designation came about because much like other newly created locales such as Simi Valley and Hanford City – all located within then far eastern Los Angeles counties – Bakersfield lacked any significant center or business district outside the tiny town itself which made it difficult for businesses wishing to expand into unfamiliar territory outside the limits established for them by Congress pursuant to President James Kahl's Executive Order No 8802 entitled " Progressives Propose Limits Upon Business Expansion Within The Area Of Southern California". At first glance this order appeared innocuous enough but upon closer inspection revealed that portions thereof specifically exempted areas lying within Kern County from further restrictions while those located within Orange County were subject only to Gentlemen's Agreement limitations; thus ensuring that any burgeoning businesses situated inside Orange County would be granted similar preferential treatment albeit without corresponding financial benefits resultant thereto! This situation effectively placed both El Pueblo Grande & Sutter's City firmly within respective boundaries defined by General Forester Himself thereby solidifying their status quo ante quem with respect both places occupantied since 1879! To this day many individuals residing inside both cities still refer back TO THAT PRECEDING TIMES & CALL THEM THEIR OWN HISTORY!
In 1887, Victorville became the first town in California to be approved for incorporation as a city by the state Legislature. The name Victorville was chosen in honor of General William Tecumseh Sherman, who had fought during the American Civil War and later served as governor of California.
