Victorville is a small community in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. Victorville is located on the edge of the Mojave Desert and features panoramic views of Death Valley and Yosemite National Park. The town began as a post office in 1896, and became an agricultural center during the early days of World War I. After prohibition was repealed in 1914, Victorville became one of the most popular tourist destinations in California. In the 1920s and 1930s, Victorville became known for its hot springs and aromatic wines. In recent years, Victorville has become home to many high-tech companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Intel Xeon Phi Processor Scalable Processors (EPPs), Lockheed Martin Phantom Works offices, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform Services Headquarters. Victorville was founded by Mormons who from their base near Springdale established a dry goods store in 1886 called Post Office Supply & Mercantile Association. A water tower was built about 1895 to supply residents with drinking water from nearby Wells River which then ran through nearby Yucca Valley into San Bernardino County government property later renamed Kern County after county president George Bancroft Kern (1863-1941). The original name for the town may have been "Saddleback" because it lay on a saddle between Yucca Valley proper to the north and wells running eastward into Kern County south of present day Victorville were also found; however this theory appears not to be supported by evidence or any historical sources other than self-reporting by several early pioneers including Milton Fyfe who lived near what is now known as Saddleback when he wrote his 1892 book "A History ofSpringdale." It should be noted that there are no records or contemporaneous accounts of anyone living within what is now known as Saddleback until after 1892 when Mormon pioneers started moving into present day Victorville creating new settlements around Yucca Valley following their arrival there earlier that year on horseback across Southern Nevada desert topography looking for new land to settle given its abundance of sandstone gorges and crystal clear lakes numerous hydrologically defined mineral springs dotting this area making it ideal for farming especially due to its warm climate year round with ample rainfall all year long leading up to significant amounts snowfall during winter months throughout much off limits portions of Mono Country prior thereto making grazing possible necessary only 3 miles northwest corner where today's city limits start just past edge Of City Limits @ US HWY 395

The first post office in Victorville opened in 1888. The city became an agricultural center during the late 19th century, and many of the industries that have been dominant there today began to develop after World War II. The city is named after General George S. Patton (1885-1945), one of America's most famous generals during World War II, and his wife Marye Belle Patton (1892-1982). The Pattons donated land to the city for its founding and are buried there along with their families.
