Bob even began working at The Daily Review as an information editor in 1978-79. During that time he met Kathy (now his wife), who worked at The Bulletin, another community paper located nearby. They hit it off immediately and started dating. When Bob was promoted to Editorial Assistant Editor in 1984 he and Kathy moved into their own apartment together. During this time, Bob also founded The Coffee League of America with other local enthusiasts as its first president (1982-1992). Victorville is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 5,584 at the 2010 census. Victorville was founded in 1892 as a stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route. The first post office was established in 1894. The town got its name from General Custer's last stand at the Battle of Little Bighorn in1876. Victorville has been called "the jewel of Kern County" for many years because of its scenic beauty and proximity to major metropolitan areas including Los Angeles and San Bernardino. In recent years, Victorville has been experiencing growth due to development around it such as new shopping malls, hotels, and farmland. In 1906, the City of Victorville was incorporated and began developing residential land east of the downtown core along US Route 66 which soon became known as "The Village". The city suffered during World War II when much of their housing stock was destroyed or used by military personnel stationed in nearby Tulare and Chowchilla counties. However, since then the city has seen population growth and development with numerous new businesses opening up within walking distance of downtown. One of the most famous events that took place in Victorville occurred on July 4th 1949 when rock musicianitchie Page came to town for a concert at Dodger Stadium. Many people from throughout Kern County converged on Victorville so that Page could be seen by all who would see him perform live (including President Truman). This event helped bring attention to local music festivals which had become increasingly popular across Southern California over the past few decades.
Victorville was founded in 1887 by John Wells and his brother, George. The original post office was called Victorville and is still in operation. It was renamed for General Pershing in 1916. In the early 1900s, a sawmill and flour mill were built here; the mills have since closed. The first store opened here in 1903. In 1925, a movie theater opened here; it has now been converted into an apartment complex.
