Victorville is a unincorporated community located in Kern County, California. It was founded in 1887 by James Fenton and his wife Lucretia. Victorville is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 52,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. Victorville was established in 1887 as a small town on the east side of San Bernardino Mountains. The first post office opened in 1892 and the first store was built in 1893. Victorville grew rapidly during World War I when goods and ammunition were shipped from nearby Long Beach and Pasadena to support the war effort. In 1925, Victorville became an independent city and annexed neighboring communities of Highland Park, Glassell Park and North Highlands. In 1957, it became a suburb of Los Angeles after voters passed a measure making it an optional city withinLos Angeles County subject to Mayor-elect Fadale Jones's approval or disapproval by referendum. The downtown area has been gradually demolished over time due to consistancy with suburban growth but parts of it remain standing including the original steel mills which closed down in 1984 but are now used as apartments and businesses
