The Victorville Air National Guard's (VNAG) 121st Rescue Squadron is one of the busiest rescue squadrons in the United States. The squadron has been providing emergency services for residents of Victorville since 1946. In that year, the VNAG was formed as a provisional unit and served with the then-California Army National Guard. It was not until 1948 that full-time military service by the VNAG began when members of the 116th Fighter Wing were sent to support Operation Neptune's Spear during World War II. Since its inception, the VNAG has participated in numerous deployments including two tours in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1990s. currently, members of our squadron are stationed at Tinker Air Force Base located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma working on various missions within NORAD and USNORTHCOM area south central Texas assisting our local law enforcement agencies with crime prevention initiatives as well as providing humanitarian assistance to individuals and families impacted by natural disasters. "There is no greater feeling than being able to help others," said Maj. Gen. Craig Tatum, commander of the 111th Rescue Wing who commands both wings associated with Victorville Air National Guard District #191 which includes Victorville AFB and all three municipalities within El Centro County--Anaheim Hills, Fallbrook and Rialto--and portions of San Bernardino County north of Interstate 15.
