The Victorville National Guard was organized on November 15, 1916 as the United States Army's original reserve force. It was activated on December 1, 1916 and its first unit, the 4th Battalion of the California National Guard, arrived in Victorville on December 9. The battalion served with distinction in World War I and became one of the first units to be mobilized for service in World War II. The battalion also provided support to military installations in Fresno and Bakersfield during the war. The battalion's colors were retired in 1951 and it was disbanded on October 14, 1957. In 1958, the National Guard reorganized and redesignated itself as the Victorville National Guard Bureau. On October 14, 1957, the bureau was merged into the City of Victorville Municipal Services Department and became a part of that department's government entity known as "City Manager" or "Mayor". In 2002, Mayor Jerry Brown dissolved City Manager & Park District Authority which included both City Guardsmen and Park employees; these individuals continued to maintain their own militias under their respective command within city limits until 2013 when all militia activities were transferred back to City Manager authority. Today there are two active battalions (the 4th Battalion) of Victorville's National Guard: 1) currently based out of Rucker Air Force Base near Sacramento; 2) based at Pershing Square Armory located adjacent to Civic Center downtown

Victorville is a small city in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 3,035 at the 2010 census. Victorville is named after General George Custer and mineral prospectors discovered copper and other minerals in the area in 1868. The city was founded on December 12, 1884 by local people as Victor Valley. It became an incorporated town on January 1, 1915. The discovery of copper in the area led to increased production of mining tools and equipment which were then exported to various parts of the world. The city's economy has depended largely upon agriculture for years; however, with persistent drought problems over the past few decades, Victorville has seen a decrease in its agricultural output and instead become a bedroom community forLos Angeles County. In 1887–88 there was an unsuccessful attempt by citizens to build a railroad through their village from Los Angeles to San Bernardino County because they considered it important that goods reaching this large county should not be delivered through smaller communities such as Victor Valley without first passing through Los Angeles proper. Some early residents of Victorville included J P Hutton (1821-1896), who donated land for a school district; Simeon Weintraub (1837-1914), who owns much of what is now downtown; A W Denny (bachelor) (1860-1947); John Llewellyn (died 1909); Augustus Trees(1799-1878); Hiram Maxim(1812-1879). A post office called "Victor Valley" was established at this location on December 12th, 1884. On January 1st 1915, it became part of Riverside County when it was annexed by that county. Victorville experienced significant growth following World War II due to its proximity to military bases throughout Southern California including Barksdale Air Force Base and Point Mugu Naval base which later closed respectively. This growth also caused housing prices to increase substantially making it one of the most expensive cities in southern California during that time period

Victorville is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 24,441 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Victorville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The site of present-day Victorville was first settled by Spanish missionaries in 1769. The community name originates from José García Hidalgo, who Exploration and headed to the area in 1821. Afterward, various other pioneers named their holdings after General José de la Cerda y Costilla: Rancho La Purísima Concepción, Villa del Rey de las Américas (later renamed Rancho Solano), and San Bernardino de Bexar. In 1884, David Sanger started building Sanger Field on what is now corner of First Street and Second Avenue. This new settlement came to be known as Victorville because it lay near Mount Whitney National Park then still open for hiking and bird watching despite being within easy access by wagon train travelers heading southward through Yosemite Valley. In 1912, the post office at Victorville opened with a population of 5 individuals and remained in operation until 1959. In 1916 William Gates purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) northeast of town along Cache Creek for $7000 cash which he donated to the local school board for use as a parkland model farm called "Gates Prairie". Gates also founded Gates Rubber Company on this tract that was later renamed Gates Road after him and his son Donald Gates Sr.. These activities led to early development of the town center with its three blocks wide streets running east-west bisected by two north-south avenues flanked by high schools (Rancho Vista High School #1 on First Avenue west of Center Street; Rancho Vista High School #2 on Second Avenue east of Center Street). In 1950s general store pioneer Roy Cramer built a large gift shop/gift store next door to his storefront located at Third Street & Elm Drive which became known as Roy's gift store until it closed in 2006 due souring relationships between Cramer's family members over succession arrangements following his death in 2000. In 1955 Juan Valdez established himself as one of America's leading retailers when he opened an establishment called "Valdez' Men" anchored by a full line GAP clothing department including both men's and women's apparel along with notions stores selling everything from furniture to bicycles
