From here, AACF Falcons arrived in support of Operation Neptune's Spear which was an effort by USAF commanders to compel North Vietnam to give up their nuclear weapons program. In 1990, after fifteen years of continuous activity at Visalia AFB, dedicated facilities were opened within the Kirtland Army Ammunition Plant adjacent to the base. This new facility provided long-term storage for millions of rounds of ammunition until it closed in 2003. Today,Visalia AFB is home to two active U.S military installations: The 9th AF is responsible for overall command and control functions; whilethe 10th AF provides primary support for units assigned there such as KC-135RT Stratotankers and E-4D/A Sentry Hawks; both located on Edwards AFB outside of Sacramento County In addition,Visalia AFB hosts numerous contractor positions including those associated with Missile Defense Agency systems Communications Station 8191(VSB), Instrument Landing System (ILS) Squadron 1 at Barstow Airport(KGBI), Aircraft Maintenance Annex #1 (AMIAN)and two detachment sites--Amphibious Material Recovery Unit#2 - MCAS Lemmon Island(LIMI)and Helicopter Transition Facility - HCATonald Beach.(HTF-9).

On April 18th, 1944 Tenth Air Force became operational under General George C Marshall with its headquarters at Heilbronn AFB Germany after having been operating out of RAF Mildenhall since 1943 as part of VIII Bomber Command during Operation Neptune’s Spear). On May 6th 1945 Eighth AF activated at Saarbrucken AB Germany after Strategic Bombing Survey recommendations that abortOperation Crossroads due to lack of available targets west of Berlin (Operation Overlord).
