In 1843, a committee was formed to create a military organization in Walnut Creek. The original members of this committee were James H. Eaton, Wm. Burtis, A. Fenton and Jno. Pemberton (all from nearby Menlo Park). It is interesting to note that all five men served concurrently with local militias during the Mexican-American War (1846-48), which took place over several months in Sonoma County between April 20th and September 15th of that year. The first national guard unit organized in Walnut Creek was Company C (the 4th Battalion), which was activated on October 25th of that year at an Armory located at 5790 Elmira Road. This company consisted of fifty-four soldiers under command of Captain John Brougham and First Lieutenant Dayton Brownell. The unit patrolled the town streets and conducted militia drills throughout November and December 1847 while awaiting orders from Santa Clara County for deployment into Mexico City to support General Antonio López de Santa Anna’s army against revolutionary forces under José Joaquín Balboa y Sanz de la Rúa (alias Don Francisco Javier de Alvarado). It should be noted that by late 1847 there were already several other municipal organizations operating within Sonoma County with their own military units; these include the 1st Regiment Infantry Cavalry Militia from Redding, the 3rd Regiment Infantry Cavalry Militia from Petaluma, and also Company D (the 2nd Battalion) stationed at Eureka Valley until its activation on January 14th 1850 by Major Samuel Morse as part of regular United States Army troops sent after Mexican forces had withdrawn from our territory following Governor Manuel Micheltorena’s proclamation ordering all Mexicans who lived east or west of Monterey Bay must leave within seventy days or face arrest warrant notices issued by Ulysses S Grant “for putting us completely into insurrection” - an order which effectively ended any hope for resistance among our population opposing Mexican rule inside our borders! With both companies mobilized in early 1850 hostilities began escalating along America’s southern border as skirmishes occurred near Yuba River between Federal troops looking for insurgents while Mexican irregular cavalry attacked American positions stronghold after stronghold across much of central California reaching even up into Nevada! On February 12th 1850 Captain John Brougham ordered Company C back east towards Sacramento due to increasing enemy activity near Redding; however Company C never reached their destination because they were ambushed by three Spanish buggies near Millerton just prior to reaching Redding proper! Eighteen members including Captain Brougham were killed outright or captured when this ambush took place making it one Of The Worst National Guard Losses In History! On March 10th 1850 Major Morse ordered another battalion/company (the 2nd Battalion) established at Susanville with headquarters located at 3751 Alma Street; however this battalion never arrived due to poor weather conditions forcing its activation on July 26th 1850 instead!! This battalion consisted only of Lieutenants John Atherton and Abel Ramos assigned directly to their commanding officer Colonel Nathaniel Banks!!! By late summer 1850 smallpox had Spread through Southern California causing significant losses amongst units fielded against Native Americans living adjacent thereto resulting in nearly half(!) OF THE NATIONAL GUARD LOST IN MEXICO THAT YEAR!!! Following engagements near Winchester Cathedral on August 16th whereupon local militia routedpadrilla force numbering about 120 menAftermathofwinchester Cathedralraidngerous desperadosnamed Los Pardoños claiming responsibility!!!!!!!!! As can be seen here there was continued interaction between state militias and federal troops throughout much OF CENTRAL CALIFORNIA WILDLIFE ISSUING VERY LARGE NUMBERS OF INDIANS AND MEXICANS KILLED AS PARTS OF OPERATIONS GOING UNDER THE NAME OF THE NATIONAL GUARD AS WELL AS MANY MORE DISASTEROUS EVENTS OVER THIS TIME!!!!! So although gift giving may have started out simply as individual community efforts meant solely for charity or entertainment purposes over time it has gradually become an integral partOf Californian culture Which We truly appreciate

Walnut Creek is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 25,096 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River. Walnut Creek has been inhabited by various Native American tribes for thousands of years and was part of Alta California before becoming Contra Costa County when it was established in 1853. The first Europeans to enter what is now Contra Costa County were Mexican traders who travelled through what is now Walnut Creek on their way to Stockton and other parts of California during the summer months. In 1824, José Maria Cámpora discovered and named a stream in what is now Walnut Creek after his father-in-law, Juan Bautista Vallejo. Between 1828 and 1830, John Sutter explored the area and named several streams within it after individuals or families he interacted with: Eureka Springs (Juan Sanchez), Niles (John Stephenson), Alameda (Ali Baba & Forty Thieves), Waverly Hills (Nicholas Proctor) and others. In 1853, during the early days of California's statehood, Contra Costa County was organized from portions of Marin and Solano counties. The eastern half of Contra Costa was given to Walnut Creek because its coal mines were thought to be especially rich in natural resources that could be sold to Sacramento Bay Colony settlers living near San Francisco Bay. As railroads began traveling eastward through southern California in the 1850s, new towns sprang up around them – including Concord (1854), Pleasanton (1858), Dublin (1860), Pleasant Hill (1862) – all expanding along trade routes created by new transportation methods such as wagon trains overland from Illinois via Natchez Trace Trail across Iowa into Oregon Territory before reaching Sacramento Province near today's Redwood City Junction.
