An air force gift history in Wasco, California began with the organization of the United States Air Force Auxiliary Signal Corps (USASAC) in 1926. The USASAC served as a liaison between the military and civilian communities, providing needed supplies and equipment to local organizations. In 1942, the auxiliary corps was renamed the Military Air Transport Service (MATS) and assigned to flying services of the United States Army. In 1946, MATS was transferred to Headquarters USAF and redesignated as the Aerospace Defense Command (AEC). The AEC soon became a major player in defense planning and policymaking, leading to numerous aerospace innovations over the years. In 1969, USAF Base Camp Pendleton became an operational USAF installation when it was opened for military personnel. Since then,AAF facilities have been used by both active duty members of the USAF as well as their spouses and children who are stationed at various locations aroundthe world. Today AFB provides living quarters for more than 24,000 military personnel representing all branches of service. Additionally, AFB is home to more than 350 contractor employees who provide support for base operations.

The Wasco Air Force Base Gift History begins with Lt. Col. Everett J. "Doc" Barnes, who served as the Chief of Staff of the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB from 1961 to 1966. In that time, he organized and donated air force artifacts and memorabilia to be on display at the museum. From 1966 until his death in 1984, Barnes was also an active member of the Elks Lodge #719 in Wasco. He was instrumental in helping to create and maintain a popular gift shop on base which is still in operation today.

The Air Force also gave out toys and other items as gifts in 1951. In 1973, the Air Force created its own gift shop called The Shop at Wright-Patterson AFB. This store sold both military and civilian items, including household goods, clothing, appliances, and furniture. In 1984, The Shop at Wright-Patterson AFB was closed down due to budget cuts. However, in 1990, The Shop at Wright-Patterson AFB reopened as an air force museum named after General Curtis LeMay Jr., who led President George H.W. Bush's Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). Since then, the Museum has hosted a variety of events related to Gift Giving within the USAF community. These have included receptions for visiting dignitaries such as Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton; displays of donated equipment; and concerts honoring those who have contributed to service within the USAF community. Today's Air Force Gift History can be traced back more than sixty years ago when officers from across America gathered at Wrightsville Beach Amphitheater on Long Island for a weekend celebration known as "Gift Week." Here they exchanged gifts with their counterparts in Europe while enjoying beautiful Long Island beaches! Gifts were not only given but received - many photos remain from this event that are still cherished today!

When the first Europeans arrived in California, they were met with great resistance. The native Californians were fiercely independent and refused to allow anyone else to establish a settlement near their territory. In 1821, the United States acquired California from Mexico and began to explore it for land grants. One of the earliest granted lands was Rancho San Bernadino, which was located in what is now Wasco County. The rancho was divided into parcels and sold off, with some land going to Anglo settlers and others going to Mexican immigrants. The original owners of Rancho San Bernadino included José Francisco Orozco, Sr., Manuel Nieto, Felipe Gomez, Juan Bautista Encinas and Diego Rivera. These men had no idea that they would one day be organizing the town of Wasco as it exists today. When Americans started settling in California during the late 19th century, they brought over many tools, including horses and carts, which quickly became an integral part of local life. With few people around to help them build roads or churches (the first European church was built in 1827), these early Californians had to rely on themselves for everything from farming to governance. As American society changed gradually over time – with more women entering businesses and gaining access to education – so too did Wasco's economy change dramatically. By World War II,Wasco had become a small agricultural community with a population of only 100 people
