Coffee was first brewed in the fertile valley of Wasco, California in 1847. The town of Wasco grew up around the coffee beans that were harvested from these hills.
Wasco is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 25,711 as of the 2010 census. Wasco is located on the San Joaquin River and is bordered by Bakersfield to the north, Fresno to the east, and Occidental to the south.
The first permanent settlement in Wasco was made on February 17, 1853 by Captain David C. Dixon and his party of engineers under leadership of George Washington Morrison. The town was named for General John Sutter who had founded Sacramento in 1849. By 1870, there were 12 buildings in Wasco and a population of 100 people. In 1905, local Democrats organized a city election which resulted in the election of Mayor Samuel Winton as mayor with an absolute majority over Republican incumbent James Fenton.
In 1922–23, during World War I munitions production became an important factor in Wasco's development as it became known as "the munitions capital of California" because of its production at Cal-Morgantown Ammunition Plant west of town (now part of Bakersfield). A new munition plant was built across the river at Stockton but this soon closed due to World War II shortages; instead local production continued at Cal-Morgantown until 1951 when it closed completely due to cheap oil prices that year.
After years of planning and construction starting in the early 1940s by WASCO citizens working hand-in-hand with Army Corps Engineers, final completion occurred on November 7th 1946 when all barriers along Interstate 5 were lowered so that traffic could flow freely into Wasco from both directions. On July 1st 1957 Mayor Sam Winton proclaimed December 4th "Waco Day" in honor of our community’s history and contribution thereto. In 1959 City Hall burned down creating a public outcry that led to reconstruction beginning immediately with replacement lumber from various sources including steel mills outside Bakersfield.City Hall fire

As coffee became more popular and widespread, it began to spread throughout parts of the world. One of the earliest sources for coffee origin information is a 16th century Spanish book, De la ropa y de los alimentos (Of Clothing and Diet). The author noted that beans were brought over from Africa in small sacks, and that roasted coffee was used as part of their breakfast routine. In the 18th century, Dutch traders started bringing beans overland to Rotterdam. They discovered that African slaves who grew beans in their plantations would bring back large amounts of flavor and caffeine. The first European settlers in North America also started drinking coffee. By 1795, Dutch missionaries had established a trading post at present-New York City. Coffee beans were soon being traded back and forth between Europe and Asia. This cross-cultural trade led to the development of different methods for extracting coffee from the bean including wet pressing, baking with baking powder, roasting with coals or oil, and using different water pressures. By 1830, most Europeans knew about direct roasting of Beans which produced an intense flavor profile not achievable through wet pressing or other methods
The first Tactical Coffee was created in1996 by a team of coffee enthusiasts led by Rob Schneider. They used whole bean beans and roasted them in-house. In 2007, they introduced their first espresso machine, the Taurus.

The community was founded in 1876 by John Wasco and his brother Augustus. The first post office was established in 1877. The name Wasco comes from the word "wachom" which meant "to dry goods." In 1907, the town had a population of 1,500 and an irrigation system that raised crops and provided water to local farms. In 1940, when Fresno County was created, Wasco became part of it. The community has experienced many changes over time including being annexed by Fresno in 1923 and then becoming its own city in 1951; however, it remains a small town with few residents outside of its limited area surrounded by rural farmland. As of the 2010 census, Wasco's population was 5,711 making it one of the smallest U.S. cities with a population under 10,000 residents
