Commodore Halsey ordered that any new recruits who had excellent moral character be given a gift. The Marine Corps also sent a delegation to Japan in 1946 to celebrate America's victory in World War II and receive gifts from the Emperor. In 1951, Marines were deployed to Korea as part of Operation Bootstrap which helped rebuild South Korea after World War II. In 1957, Marines arrived in Vietnam and became embroiled in the conflict as part of Operation Neptune's Spear which was responsible for helping reach Geneva Accords ending the war. As part ofOperation Restore Hope, Marines traveled throughout Afghanistan aiding local farmers while working side by side with Afghan security forces.
Watsonville was founded in 1847 by George C. Watson and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after Captain John A. Watson who had led a party of Americans to explore the Nipomo area in 1846. The town is located on the San Francisco Peninsula and is part of San Francisco County. It has a population of over 111,000 people and is the largest city on the Peninsula. The first permanent settler in Watsonville was George Fenton, who arrived in 1848. Other early settlers included Nathaniel Bacon and his family, Benjamin Hogg, Elijah Howe, Nicholas heating company owner Amos Kendall, Isaiah Morse and his brother-in-law David Gilmore. The city's first school was built in 1850 by Reverend Larkin Moulton at what is now Second Street and King Avenue. In 1857, the California State Legislature designated Watsonville as the county seat for San Francisco County. The first post office in Watsonville opened on April 12, 1861 under the name of Palo Alto Post Office; it closed on July 14, 1865 due to lack of mail service from San Francisco Bay Area towns along Route 1A (now Interstate 280). In 1872–73 explorer John Muir visited Watsonville while exploring nearby Mount Hamilton; he took note of an area now occupied by downtown Watsonville which he called Muir Heights because its views looked like those seen fromMuir's summit atopMount Hamilton (). Muir named a street after him -John A. Muir Way () -and developed parts of downtown into an entertainment district known today as Muir Valley . In 1903 Mayor John Prentice established Parkside Park adjacent to First Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues as one of Los Angeles' original public parks (), followed by other municipal park systems throughout Angelenos' city until they were all merged into City Hall Plaza District in 1916 (). Today many remnants remain including two large piers that once supported an extensive wooden wharf system used for shipping goods from local landfills to markets around Los Angeles

Watsonville is a small town in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 9,554 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of the Russian River. The first Europeans to visit Watsonville were Juan Bautista de Anza and his party in 1769. After exploring the area for some time, they named it San Francisco del Norte ( premises of present-day Santa Clara). In 1821, Captain John C. Fremont sighted Mount Diablo from Watsonville Point and named it after him. The name was changed to San Francisco in 1848 when gold was found in the area. In 1868, Commodore George Vancouver explored the Russian River Valley and discovered Gold Rush sites atWHATCOM (now part of Marin County), Sutter’s Mill (now part of Sacramento), and Tomales Bay. On July 27 of that year, he reached Watsonville Point on the Russian River by boat with his Expedition No. 5 under Lieutenant James Kenedy and Commander David Dixon[1]. At this point there were only three houses left in what is now Watsonville; they had been abandoned by their owners during the previous winter due to floods caused by heavy rains upstream.[2] On October 15,[3] Kenedy erected a wooden cross at what is now called Christiana Peak after Mrs.(estimated maiden name) Annandale who donated land for it[4]. One hundred men from various ships worked over 10 days digging two wells which yielded about $5 worth of silver[5] which led to more widespread discovery throughout California including Marysville on November 3rd where silver coins began being issued as far away as Portland Oregon Territory.[6] Only one house remain today within downtown core; this house formerly stood near center square before being taken down around 1886 because its owner could no longer afford repairs/maintenance according to current thinking but rather saved it for future museum display purposes!
Watsonville was founded by José Gomez in 1847. The first post office was established in 1852, and the town became a part of the U.S. in 1850. It was named for James Watson, an American scientist who had made important contributions to science.
