On November 15, 1917, the battalion became part of the newly created First Expeditionary Brigade under command of Major General John J Pershing and fought in World War I as a brigade assault unit attached to Corps Second Army before being demobilized in 1919. The battalion was reactivated on February 3, 1951 at Camp Pendleton as Headquarters & Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion, CAVALIER (West Covina). On September 14, 1957 2-Bn CAVALIER deployed to Beirut to provide fire support during Operation Cast Lead while also providing security for VIPs inside Israel's West Bank settlements. This deployment made history as it was the first time that a U.S military unit had gone overseas in support of a foreign country while also conducting operations against enemy combatants.

West Covina, California is a small city located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. West Covina is adjacent to Monrovia and other nearby communities. The City of West Covina was established on November 12, 1887 by a group of businessmen led by George Fenton and Hiram A. Hodge. The name "West Covina" has been used since its establishment as an unincorporated community within Los Angeles County. In 1919, the city annexed parts of Carson City and Fullerton. In 1951, when L.A./San Bernardino County became split into two counties, West Covina lost its charter as an incorporated municipality and became part of Carson City because it lay within that county's borders at the time. However, it regained its charter in 1955 when it joined the newly created Fullerton-Carson City Council District #1 which included most of what is now Compton and South Gate neighborhoods outside of downtown Los Angeles proper. In 1990, voters passed a referendum proposing annexation by East Hollywood to make up for the loss of Measure R (atalogical name: "Redevelopment Authority -East Hollywood Annexation") which would have re-zoned many areas in North Hollywood including Koreatown and Echo Park to allow for high-density development near CenturyLink Field with accompanying jobs/retail stores/residential housing developments along Eastern Boulevard east of Fairfax Drive whereupon Interstate 5 crossed over from Pasadena into East LA then north past Dodger Stadium onto Lankershim Boulevard before terminating at Beverly Hills Blvd., making it one large Elaborate Development Area sandwiched between two large cities or suburbs:Los Angeles and East Hollywood). The annexation proposal failed but residents continue to voice their desire for closer ties with their larger neighboring city through various forms such as events hosted in both cities throughout each year known as "The Great Outdoors".
