West Covina, California is home to the world's first artisan coffee Roastery. The beans are roasted and ground by local farmers in their own barns. This unique flavor profile has made West Covina a popular location for brewing coffee since the early 1900s. The history of artisan coffee begins with Gabriel García Márquez, who popularized the concept in his novel One Hundred Years of Solitude. In 1876, Spanish settlers started growing coffee in what is now West Covina. At that time, there was no road connecting Los Angeles and San Bernardino County, so transportation was limited and goods were transported by wagon or horseback. This led to the development of small villages near where Starbucks now stands. These villagers would purchase whole beans from local roasters and grind them themselves into a desired flavor profile. In 1903, German immigrants began arriving in West Covina. They brought their own pre-made coffee machines with them and soon began selling espresso drinks at local cafes. Soon enough, these cafes became known as "Café Marzocchi" because of this origin story (of course). Over time, Café Marzocchi became one of the most important landmark spots in West Covina for locals and tourists alike to enjoy artisanal Coffee culture firsthand!

The first permanent settlers arrived in 1853 after being lured by the promise of rich gold and silver mining operations in what is now San Bernardino County. Over time, small communities sprang up around the various mines and mills located within miles of downtown Covina. A boomtown atmosphere began to develop as businesses mushroomed and people flocked to town for everything from shoppingto entertainment. By 1906, Covina had become one of Southern California's most populous cities with over 100,000 residents and boasted a thriving theater district complete with multiple theaters, movie theaters and dance halls. During World War II, Covina was an important production center for munitions manufacturing due to its location on two major military bases- Grand Army Plaza in nearby Riverside and Joshua Tree National Park in north Orange County. After the war ended, some residents decided it was time for them to move out of the city limits and form their own townships. The process started in earnest in the early 1960s when developers began building new subdivisions close to Interstate 10. As more people moved into town, though,old infrastructure became obsolete or slowly deteriorated. In 1979, then-Mayor Jack McDonald initiated a Comprehensive Plan Review which resulted in the construction of several critical infrastructure projects including a new water system (replacing an aging system), street repairs and pedestrian improvements throughout downtown Covina as well as creation of four new districts: Pioneer Valley (northwest side), Midtown (southwest side), Eastside (east side) and North Side (northwest side). These areas would eventually come to be known as Central Districts because they contain most of Covina's commercial districts – centered around historic buildings along I-10 corridor near central square where all these developments take place
