The Coast Guard has been a part of the community in West Covina for over 60 years. The Service was founded on April 14, 1915 when the City of West Covina charter included a provision for the organization of a coast guard. On November 15, 1922, the first Georgetown-based Coast Guard District was organized and it consisted of 8 stations located in Southern California including Berkeley, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Ventura County. On May 21, 1942, during World War II Coast Guard Station Orange Grove was activated and became one of the first United States Navy shore installations to accept donations from civilians to support war efforts. From then until December 1944 when USCG Station Huntington Beach closed after being bombed by Japanese planes - all Coast Guard Stations were single unit coastal patrols as opposed to today's multiple units which are more common aboard Naval vessels. During this time there were also numerous visits by American troops who relieved the European allies in their battle against Germany and Italy; USS Constitution (1889) made her final voyage from Long Beach Harbor on September 2nd 1945 with troops disembarking at Santa Ana Bay area before moored at Mission Bayou for use as an ammunition dump. In 1970 through 1974 UPNF-TV produced "Coast Guards: A History" which chronicled various aspects of our Service's history including uniforms and equipment used during that time period; many Customs functions were conducted out at Point Loma Light House such as public demonstrations or search & rescue operations; Specialty Areas include Public Information Officer (PIO) duties ashore during emergencies or campaigns such as Operation Neptune's Spear where crews assisted local law enforcement officers; Helicopter Patrol Squadron One (HPS-1) providing helicopter security for ports/ harbors throughout Southern California while squadron members provided air cover for other missions both above and below water while tethered to naval vessels using retractable landing gear equipped with floats; Cutter Squadron Five (CSV-5) provides lifesaving assistance offshore during storms etc.; As well as Gifts Homeported program which brought gift baskets containing items such as flowers or candy to coastal communities along our coastline each year on Christmas Day In memory of those lost in service or whose lives have been changed forever due to illness or injury overseas... Today we continue this tradition with "Gift History - The Coast Guard Experience" which is an online fundraiser campaign initiated in 2014 that benefits numerous charities across the country... West Covina, California is a city in southern Orange County, California. The population was 79,521 at the 2010 census. West Covina is located on the shore of Lake Ontario and straddles the border of Ventura and Los Angeles counties. It lies about 15 miles (24 km) east of downtown Los Angeles and about 20 miles (30 km) south of Downtown Pasadena. The name “Covina” first appeared in 1853 as part of Rancho de la Mesa de Santa Ana. In 1881, it was renamed Covina Heights after George Washington Covine, an American military officer who had fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as a U.S. Representative from Southern California under President James K Polk during the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. As one result of its proximity to Orange County’s major cities and rich agricultural land, Covina became a center for cotton production until more recently; however, now it is principally known for its commercial properties within its city limits which have enjoyed strong growth over recent decades due to new development adjacent to some old ones such as Angeleno Boulevard just west of town and Old Mill Road on the eastern edge of town that opened up largeyards for citrus fruits in the 1920s when there were no commercially grown trees around hereabouts!

West Covina is a small city in San Bernardino County, California. It is the most populous city in the county, and it was also the most recently annexed by San Bernardino County. The population of West Covina was estimated to be 134,089 as of 2014. The area now known as West Covina was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. It became part of Rancho Cucamonga Mexican land grant given to José Figueroa on November 16, 1781. A year later, Rancho Cucamonga was sold to Manuel Nieto and named after his rancho (farm). The name "West Covina" originated from an Indian word meaning "west wind." In 1853, Jose Gomez bought 132 acres of Rancho Cucamonga land from Manuel Nieto for $1,000. He named his community "Gomezville" in honor of José Gomez. In 1861, following the admission of California into the United States as a state, Henry Haverhill donated 640 acres (2 km²) of east side of town including what is now North Park Boulevard to establish a public school district called Haverhill District #2. This donation formed much of what is now north central San Bernardino County and served as one source for funding for schools throughout California during that era. On July 16, 1903 – just over a decade after incorporation – westside residents organized themselves into their first government with a meeting at locker roomnasal Laundromat on East Pico Boulevard reported by local reporter Rufus Wainwright: "A group composed largely of women resolved themselves into a Local Board or Committee to purchase property adjoining present Cliff Drive bearing then the name 'Waldorf' - lots amounting to $5 worth each'. At this meeting new members were elected Cyrus Fenton (President), Jennie Davenport (Vice President), Mayme Jorgenson (Treasurer) and Marguerite Weller (Secretary). Mrs Bement voted not to incorporate." On October 24th 1905 officials convened at Red Lion Inn on Alameda Street NW corner Main Street between Seventh Avenue SW and Elmira Street NW regarding annexation requests from other communities located within San Bernardino County such as Fillmore and Arroyo Grande; however no action was taken because only those living within City limits had jurisdiction over matters affecting City status quo when annexations were discussed/promised returning only those living within City limits when annexation discussions took place
In 1853, the first post office was established in West Covina by A.L. Sprague and Wm. P. Greenough. The first store was on Congress Street and later, on Elm Avenue. In 1865, the town of West Covina was incorporated and named for its location west of Los Angeles on the San Gabriel River. The population of West Covina grew rapidly from its small original community of only 150 people in 1865 to 3,000 by 1880 due to agricultural production and new transportation links brought about by the completion of the Southern Pacific Railroad in that year. The city's main street became Main Street in 1887 when it was absorbed into the newly created Los Angeles County. A major growth period took place throughout the 1920s as a result of World War II with military recruitment bringing many residents to town which increased taxable value by 300%. The postwar boom ended abruptly when local manufacturing fell behind technology during the Great Depression but Regeneration began which included several downtown redevelopment projects starting in the early 1970s including a new shopping mall, high school/college/university (now known as Staples Center), and Engine House Square which has been called "the heart of West Covina". From 1990-2007, much effort went into development around east side streets adjacent to Interstate 5 where Regeneration stalled although some businesses have reopened such as Subway sandwich shop locations at I-5 & Gettysburg Avenue north of Stadium Boulevard off Stadium Drive; however this area is now largely unoccupied due to demographic changes with more people living near Interstate 5 or within walking distance for jobs or entertainment instead.
