The Navy has been deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm since 1990. The deployment in California was the first time a navy ship had ever been stationed in that state. This deployment was also the first time an aircraft carrier, USS George Washington (CVN-73) had been deployed to Southern California. In 1994, USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) was deployed to the Persian Gulf as part ofOperation Southern Watch. The ship transported humanitarian supplies and personnel to Iraq during this deployment. In 1998, USS Enterprise (CVN-70)Deployed to the Indian Ocean as part ofthe NATO Rimland Expeditionary Force for Operation Noble Eagle. The Enterprise transported troops and equipment from Djibouti to Somalia while on their way back to U.S soil after fighting in that country against terrorists associated with al Qaeda. USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) Deployed off Japan’s coast on October 9th, 2003 as part ofOperation Enduring Freedom(). The Ronald Reagan transported cargo and passengers from Yokosuka Naval Shipyard deep inside Japanese waters before conducting a flyover of Tokyo Bay by Carrier Air Wing 5 led by CVN 78 Destroyer Squadron 2nd Fleet’s Nimitzclass destroyer USS John S McCain (). USS George Washington (CVN-73), which is currently docked at Pier 39 in Long Beach, CA will be deploying for its third deployments beginning next weekthas part of Operation Golden Gate Bridge(GGB). This deployment is being conducted with Carrier Strike Group 7 including USS Los Angeles (CVA-64), USS Guam (PHI-8), USS Coral Sea (LHD 8), USS Seattle () and HMS Resistance (). These deployments are expected to last 15 months each and are intended to improve interoperability between our fleets in order allow us to play key roles against terrorism and other threats around the world

The USS Enterprise (CVN-70) was deployed to the Western Pacific in 1945 as part of the United States Navy's Operation Coronet. The ship arrived in Japanese waters on December 7, 1945 and participated in the Battle of Okinawa. On February 15, 1946, Enterprise departed Japan for West Covina, California. She arrived at Naval Station San Diego on March 6th and remained there until her decommissioning on October 3rd 1951.
West Covina is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 107,651 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the city of Los Angeles and is bordered by Compton to the south and east, Carson City to the north, Lynwood to the west and Gardena to the northwest. The name "West Covina" originated from its location on Via de la Brea Avenue which parallels Ventura Boulevard. The area that now makes up West Covina was first settled by Anglo- Mexicans in 1871 as Rancho La Brea. In 1881, they organized what became known as Villa Park Starrettown Association for development of this new community east of downtown Los Angeles. The association's ownership of land allowed it to be developed into a town with streetscape designations typical of early English towns in Southern California such as Victoria Park (now Vernon), Norwalk Heights (now North Hollywood), Echo Park and Magnolia Hills (now Koreatown). In 1905, developer William Randolph Hearst purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) of present day Vista del Mar Boulevard from José Avilés Romero for $2 million; he then renamed it Hearst Boulevard after himself. He subdivided this tract into blocks called "Hearst Terrace", "Hearst Way", "Hearst Park" and so forth until 1925 when all blocks were combined into one grid block named after him - Hearst Drive - which still exists today within City Limits! From 1926 until 1950s only single family homes were built on these grids with wide sidewalks fronting onto arterial roads; however over time more apartments have been added along Southwestern Freeway Rd which borders both cities limits forming an enclave in City Limits surrounded by City Limits! This has resulted in street names like Pacific Palisades Blvd., Vinegar Hill Dr., Laurel Canyon Blvd., etc.; but most residents refer to their neighborhoods simply as West Covina or simply “City limits”! Today there are over 20K people living along Southwestern Freeway Rd within City Limits making it one of largest concentrations of people outside DowntownLos Angeles - plus there are many other areas within CITY LIMITS where thousands more people live including: Eastvale, Encino Hills, Hawthorne Village

West Covina began as a small ranching town in the early 1800s. It quickly became a post-gold Rush boomtown, with residents exporting goods to California and other parts of the United States. The town's importance continued until the late 1800s, when it declined in population and associated businesses went out of business. In 1926, West Covina was annexed by Los Angeles County. Today, it is an inactive census-designated place (CDP) located within Los Angeles County. In 1821, two Mexican laborers named José María Salinas and Francisco J. Alvarado founded Rancho Santa Anita near present-day Covina in what is now Orange County. The original grantees were individual investors who owned about 2,500 acres (1 km2). By 1826, however, most of the land in what is now West Covina had been acquired by various companies or individuals who leased it from Mexico for cattle farming or mineral extraction operations. The first post office at Rancho Santa Anita was established on December 12, 1827; its name was changed to Rancho Aguaje on January 15th of that year. The community developed rapidly due to its location – just east of Mount Hope Cemetery – and its proximity to major gold mines in San Gabriel Mountains and San Fernando Valley: El Monte Gold Mine (now known as Monrovia),[1] Arroyo Seco Mine,[2] La Hacienda de las Flores,[3] Adobe Hills Mines (now known as Sylmar),[4][5] and Pico Colorado Mines (now known as Pomona).[6][7][8][9] Ranchos Santa Anita/Aguaje served primarily as frontier posts for local farmers while also hosting merchants who conducted trade with Mexicans living along the southern borderlands supplying goods such as watermelons, cornmeal, cattle, hides and feathers from Indian tribes living northward on what are today Oregonette Peninsula and Baja California Peninsula respectively. For many years there was no permanent government presence in these communities; elected officials merely reported back to their respective ranchos upon completion of their inspections or during special occasions such as weddings or dances celebrating new signing treaties between Mexico City and Tecumseh Confederation resulting in Mexican cession or annexation of portions of Alta California including present day Riverside County into the United States following discovery thereof by Juan Crespí via his mission trip throughout Southern California during 1776–77.]
