It also served as a transportation hub for soldiers and civilians on deployment. In 1968, the City of West Sacramento received the C-141A from the United States Air Force. The plane had been donated by 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment of the US Army.

West Sacramento is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 54,821 at the 2010 census. The estimated population for the City of West Sacramento was 61,773 as of 2019. It is part of the East Bay Area and has been surrounded by Rancho Cordova since 1853. The first Europeans to see what is now West Sacramento were Spanish Missionaries who landed there on October 25, 1769 with Father Juan Crespí and seventeen other missionaries under Captain José María de Vallejo. They built a small mission known as San Francisco y Nuestra Señora del Rosario (Our Lady of Good Counsel) on the present day corner of Seventh Street and I Street. On July 15, 1813, Mexican Governor Alvarado granted Rancho Santiago el Nuevo to Manuel Nieto east of present-day downtown west of 8th street. This grant included the land that would become West Sacramento. Nieto founded Rancho Santiago on December 9, 1814 with 125 acres (4 ha) Grant #6 from Governor Alvarado along Seventh Street where he had erected his house in honor of Dona Concepción de la Concha y Pacheco which still stands today adjacent to TRW headquarters southbound on 7thStreet across from City Hall northbound at Masonic Temple Park between 2nd and 3rd Streets). In 1827 water rights were purchased from Juan Bautista Martinez by Wm Sutter who named it after him: Sutter's Mill or Calafia Mill Site (). In 1853 Wm Sutter leased 66 acres (25 ha) northwest side of current Depot Road from Valentine Atherton for $1 an acre ($0.50/acre). In 1865 Jno Fenton patented 5 blocks north side riverbank just west side old RR right-of way including 6 lots now occupied by First Nat’l Bank building at 12th + Elm Streets east

This was another example where deployments gave me opportunities that other things would not have given me!
