The California Army National Guard is one of the most well-equipped and decorated military forces in the United States. The history of this force dates back to 1851, when Captain George Armstrong Custer was charged with protecting settlers on the Coeur d'Alene Indian Reservation. For many years, the CA AGN served as a garrison unit devoted primarily to providing law and order on Sacramento's Native American reservations. In 1942, when World War II began, members of the CA AGN were called into active service as part of General George S. Patton's Ninth USArmy. The regiment served in Europe until 1945 and then returned home to support peacekeeping operations in South Korea and Japan during the Korean War. In 1951, elements of the CA AGN participated in Operation Neptune's Spear which led to North Korea's surrender. On October 1, 1976, elements of the CA AGN moved from their former home at Fort MacArthur to become part of First Battalion (Very Heavy) Infantry Regiment (I), 4th Infantry Division (HD). This battalion saw action during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm; it also played a significant role in liberating Panama fromanquistanan control in 1989. On November 15, 1990 marked an important milestone for California when elements of the CA AGN became operational as a fully trained airborne brigade under command of First Lieutenant Michael J. Eikenberry III . Since then, this brigade has been deployed twice – once combatuting against insurgents inside Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom and again helping deploy troops to Kosovo after that country's war with Serbia ended in 1999. As parts of larger U.S.-led coalition efforts since 9/11/2001 - including actions such as 11/15 attacks on two UH-1 helicopters near Los Angeles International Airport - elements of California Army National Guard have taken part both within our state boundaries and beyond its borders

The history of the army in West Sacramento, California can be traced back to 1851 when a detachment of soldiers was deployed to garrison the town. This detachment was known as the "Sacramento Battalion." The battalion served until 1861, when it was disbanded due to budget cuts. In 1862, an order from Governor John Calhoun called for 1,500 men to be mobilized for service in the American Civil War. The regiment that would become the 5th CA (West Sacramento) Infantry Regiment was formed from scratch and given its baptism of fire on July 4th 1863 at Bancroft Hill near Sacramento. After serving in the Union Army for two years, the regiment was mustered out on November 15th 1865 and returned home. It wasn't until 1870 that they were again called into service during Reconstruction and served until 1875. In 1898, another order called for 1,500 men to be drafted into military service in Mexico under President McKinley's campaign pledge to fight alongside America against Spanish forces. The regiment became known as Company K (Caldwell). They fought their way north through Mexico and arrived at San Miguel de Allende on September 16th 1899. There they engaged in an all-out battle against Mexican forces before withdrawing back downriver towards Veracruz City on October 22nd 1899. The company then made its way southward towards Tijuana before finally reaching Ciudad Juárez on December 12th 1899. Here they participated in a major assault against Mexican defenses which resulted in a strategic victory for Americans over Mexican forces. After this success, Company K (Caldwell) withdrew back upriver towards Albuquerque New Mexico on January 8th 1900 pursuant to orders from General George Sherman who had assumed command of American forces operations along the border following President McKinley's death four days earlier: "This command will now move forward with expeditionary force across our southern border with Chihuahua and crush whatever resistance may be encountered" Company K (Caldwell) crossed into Mexican territory just after midnight on January 9th via Tecate Dam and began what would become one of America's most celebrated campaigns - Battle of Tehuantepec against Mexican troops loyal to Santa Cruz Governor Ramón Guerrero
West Sacramento is a city in Kings County, California, United States. The population was 26,567 at the 2010 census. The east side of town is located within the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta National Wildlife Refuge and is part of the Sacramento metropolitan area. West Sacramento also includeslying communities such as Ardenwood, Belmont, Citrus Heights, and North Highlands. The history of West Sacramento begins with its founding in 1851 by pioneers who came from central California. In 1871, it became part of the newly created Kings County and was named for Major General George Armstrong Custer and his family who had settled in that region in 1849. In 1907, the City Council voted to rename itself "West Sacramento" after Senator Hiram Johnson (D-Calif.). On October 3rd of that year - just two weeks before he resigned from office due to a heart attack - Johnson addressed a crowd of approximately 10,000 people at what is now known as Recreation Park on Grand Avenue cornered by I-5 southbound traffic on both sides. He spoke about how West Sacramento had become "a slum because our politicians were afraid to do anything about it." Johnson's speech helped spur action by local business leaders to improve conditions for residents including creating parks and playgrounds for kids as well as establishing city services like streetlights and Public Works Department carpenters restoring sidewalks which had been damaged during years of mudslides. By 1914 West Sacramentans had formed their own fire department thanks largely to donations from citizens! Today City Hall sits on top of an ancient sinkhole that was once used for storage however today's plaza offers ample opportunity for public performances as well as events related thereto like summer concerts/ festivals etc...

West Sacramento was a small town in Northern California during the early 1900s. It was located on the banks of the Sacramento River and became an important railroad junction. The town also had a large cotton industry that produced high-quality fabric. West Sacramento is known for its distinctive red baseball caps, which are still in use today.
In 1847, a group of farmers in the area began to build a farmstead on what is now West Sacramento. The first settler was Nicholas Flournoy and his wife Jane. In 1850, they had two children: one son, Nicholas Jr., and one daughter, Catharine. Katharine married John Purdy in 1860. By 1870, the family had four children: Maria (1871-1953), James (1872-1958), John Fenton (1875-1957) and Katherine (1877-1945). John Fenton ran a grocery store on Fillmore Street from 1892 to 1907 before moving it across the street to Addison Avenue. In 1907 he sold the store to George Akins who operated it until 1951 when it was purchased by Fred Clements who operated it until 1978 when it was donated to Western State University. On February 20th, 1865, California became an independent republic and Sacramento became its capital city. On May 3rd of that year, President Abraham Lincoln signed into law "An Act giving rise to the present Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento" making Sacramento the new cathedral for all Catholics in California. The original cathedral burned down in 1868 but was rebuilt with brick and stone in 1869 using designs by American architect Alfred Bierstadt which remain today as part of WSU's campus architecture collection.
