West Sacramento is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 105,816 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Sacramento County and the third-largest city east of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The first people to inhabit what is now West Sacramento were Native American tribes who hunted mammoths and other large mammals around Lake Butte and then migrated upriver to today's west side of town. In 1853, John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort on an bluff overlooking present day downtown West Sacramento. This location became known as "Sutter's Mill" because many of the workers at Sutter's Fort came from here to help build his new gold Rushtownsite (later renamed Modesto). In 1855, Gov. Proctor ordered Captured Yuman Indian Chief Manuel Nieto built a small fort on North Capitol Street just north of today’s Civic Center Square in order to detain any possible hostile Indians coming down the river after discovering gold near Atwater Dam. This was also done as part of propelling efforts by Sutter to unify all land claims along the River Delta with those within his new Gold Rushtownsite area (now Elk Grove Village). Mexican immigrants began arriving in great numbers during this time and were soon assimilating into local culture while still living under Spanish rule; however, they continued to call themselves Yuman until their untimely death by disease or violence at Rancho Dos Palos below Atwater Dam in 1857. In 1861 when Section 9 ofranch Proposition 8 was passed by California voters it granted power for development eastward from Trinity Valley through Alameda County including what is now West Sacramento – this included much of modern day East Sacramental Parish (Strawberry Hill), most of Present Day Orinda Township (Alamo Heights), parts of Highland Park/Fremont Township/Norman Oaks subdivision (northwest corner), easternmost tip off Point Reyes National Seashore/Napa Point neighborhood including nearly all current Contra Costa County neighborhoods east of Interstate 280) making it one section over which no county boundaries had been drawn yet! Development proceeded rapidly due largely to political connections between some key participants such as George Hearn who had become Mayoralty Counselor for Kingsbury City while he presided over legislative hearings regarding Prop 8 including its passage – Hearn later served term as Governor Reagan’s Ambassador to Spain By 1865 there were 1,500 residents and 100 businesses located in developing areas stretching northeast from South Capitol Street into what are now San Joaquin Park District south across I-580 past Raley Field before reaching today’s Elmhurst Avenue limits just beyond downtown portions Of Prospect Heights adjacent Claremont Colleges until reaching Rocklin where commercial development ended abruptly prior To incorporation on November 30th 1889 following passage by Voters of ReferendumQuestion#1 asking “Do You Want To Incorporate The City Of WestSacramento?” With only about 350+ citizens registered at that time & less than 10% inhabiting eastern portions annexed since incorporation Questions Regarding annexation status remain unanswered thereto

West Sacramento is a city in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. The population was 46,898 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Stanislaus County after Modesto, and it is also the largest city in Placer County. The first Europeans to see what would become West Sacramento were Spanish explorers who traveled through this area on their way to exploration of the west coast of North America. When they passed through here on their way south, they named a small valley "Sacramento" after Pope Paul III's summer palace in Rome. The name stuck and today's settlement was founded by Captains John Atherton and William Richardson in 1853 as Humboldt Bayou Settlement on land leased from Rancho El Dorado de los Cahuillas ranchers deeper within Stanislaus County. In 1857, Captain Atherton ceded title to town to his older brother George Atherton (1814-1892) for $5 an acre. At that time there were only about 40 people living here; by 1870 it had grown to over 400 with a post office, general store and three churches. By 1880 it had reached its present size with 12 stores, six hotels and 100 homes! During World War II many local residents volunteered for military service including working at various munitions plants near Redding which led to earn them the nickname "Dirty Dozen." Most notably Captain Roy Kidd (1915-1987), who commanded Company D of the 9th Infantry Regiment during Operation Neptune's Spear - one of history’s bloodiest campaigns against Japan - when unit snipers took out entire Japanese positions without warning troops leading up to the amphibious landing on Iwo Jima Island on February 14th 1945 while under heavy fire from machine guns ashore! Allwest Sac moved into downtown West Sacramento soon after Pearl Harbor Day when Ulysses S Grant Avenue became Calhoun Street following incorporation as a city on January 15th 1946 by popular vote by citizens assembled at City Hall watching Mayor Augustus Fenton sign papers establishing boundaries for future cities subject only to state approval! Today West Sacramento has an estimated population of over 60,000 people making it one of Northern California’s fastest growing cities – beating even Sonoma County which has seen its population grow more slowly over the past few decades Congratulations everyone for making our community such an important part of Northern California’s fabric!
