The National Guard in West Sacramento, California traces its origins back to 1907. The first National Guard unit was organized in response to the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. At the time, there were no military units stationed in West Sacramento. In 1917, a company of the 10th Calvary Infantry Regiment was sent to help protect the city during World War I. After the war, the regiment became part of the California National Guard and served until 1957. In light of America's entry into World War II, on September 3, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt called for all elements of society to come together and contribute their resources to support our country's defense effort. On December 8th of that year, General George Custer was killed in action while leading his 7th Cavalry Regiment against Japanese forces at Midway Island. This event helped spark nationwide patriotism and mobilization among Americans across age groups. The following year saw another major victory when Japan surrendered at Tokyo Bay after four years of war with America as its main enemy (the battle for Okinawa is also significant)). As a result of this event and others like it throughout history, American citizens began pledging their allegiance to their country through various organizations such as local councils or militia detachments (eager to capitalize on wartime patriotism). In 1947-48, an act known as "The GI Bill" facilitated enlistment into the armed forces by civilians who had been out of service for more than six months due to economic reasons or World War II hostilities (during these years you could only enlist if your employer approved). As a result of this legislation many people who would have never considered joining up before now decided they had no choice but do so because they wanted access to government benefits (eager workers could receive food stamps and housing modifications while serving in uniform). The first post office for Sacramento was established here on March 18, 1848. After years of growth and development, West Sacramento's economy peaked during World War II when ranching became an important industry and many people worked in defense plants or military production plants across the state. However, since then there has been steady decline with few major advancements made to the city's infrastructure other than some new housing developments that have drawn attention from developers but not much economic activity that has followed them around like traditional businesses do elsewhere within a certain radius like downtown or nearby cities have done over time McConnell Air Force Base which closed down in 1992 due to budget cuts led to an increase number of homeless individuals living near by as well as more crime rates downtown which are actually decreasing these days thanks mostly to police patrols but still high enough rates that they can cause problems for some families trying to live decent lives despite poverty rates among others In response Mayor Darrell Steinberg created a task force with help from business leaders including those mentioned earlier and other members of government looking into ways West Sacramento could make changes such as increasing spending on transportation infrastructure instead of just building new things because chances are good that if something isn't done soon someone else will be who will eventually solve issues caused by lackadaisical planning many times before anything actually happens let alone gets implemented

West Sacramento is a city in Butte County, California, United States. The population was 27,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Fremont Metropolitan Statistical Area. West Sacramento is named after its location on the east bank of the San Joaquin River and its role as an agricultural center during the Gold Rush period. The first people to live here were Native Americans who hunted and gathered game near what is now downtown West Sacramento. In 1848, California became a U.S. state, and settlers began moving into this area from eastern Oregon and Nevada. By 1860, most of present-day Butte had been developed with small villages clustered around Rancho El Cascio on American River (later called Rancho Del Norte). This area would come to be known as "West Sac". In 1876, John Sutter acquired 640 acres (2 km²) of land along the north side of the river for $10 per acre ($100 per hectare). As construction proceeded on his new rancho south of town, including some large adobe buildings still standing today such as Sutter's Dome (now Tower House), many small farmers also started growing crops nearby. Today these farms are known collectively as "Old West Sacramento." In 1881, James Haughton organized a partnership with George Hearn to build a transmission line between Stockton and Reno which soon became one of Northern Californias largest telephone companies through its Haughton Telephone Company subsidiary until it merged into Western Union in 1970; henceforth it was simply known as Western Union National Corporation. The first post office in town was established in 1887 by Wm Eadie under the name "Sacramento". The name was changed to "West Sacramento" in 1895 when it incorporated as a city limits town within Butte County boundaries. During World War II there were several air raids against West Sacramentans homes including one that killed four people inside Sutter's dome on October 20th 1945; however no damage or fatalities resulted from other airstrikes against west sacramentans during that war.(1) Afterward many residents moved back outside city limits but continued using their homes for storage or other purposes until sold off over time to individual owners starting around 1955-1960s when they were renovated/repainted/furnished according to current zoning regulations now extant(2).
