The first brick building in town was built in1872 and it still exists today as the West Sacramento Civic Center.In 1915, General Electric moved its headquarters from Scranton, Pennsylvania to West Sacramento. During his visit, he presented a statue of himself at City Hall which still stands today.In 1948, Mayor Dutch Shultz invited President Franklin D Roosevelt to come for a state dinner at City Hall which he attended. West Sacramento, California is a city located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 24,723 as of 2010. It is the third-largest city in Fresno County and the largest city in Kern County. The history of West Sacramento dates back to 1859 when it was named for Brigadier General John C. West and his wife Mary Lyon. In 1876, West Sacramento became part of what was then called Tulare County. On January 1, 1889, it became a separate municipality with its own government and name. In 1951, the City Council passed an ordinance creating downtown areas around two square blocks on both sides of Main Street between Third Street and Fourth Street as an urban renewal project designed to revitalize the downtown area and bring new life to thealerted community that had grown up around Interstate 5 across town since World War II. The first phase of this redevelopment project began on June 15, 1951 with demolition of several buildings along Third Street including Old courthouse which served as headquarters for the now defunct Kern county Board of Supervisors from 1911 until it moved to offices at First Baptist Church in downtown Kernsville in 1976; also demolished were three restaurants (the Cotton Club Grill), four small shops (the Jewelry Store on ThirdStreet SE., The Warehouse on FourthStreet SE., and Gertrude’s basement restaurant) located east sideof MainStreeet between Second Avenue NE & I5S; these businesses were replaced by a one-story office building (the Hoyer Building) that housed many civic organizations such as fire departments from nearby cities like Bakersfield & Madera before they relocated to other parts or closed due to lack of business growth or vandalism over time plus problematical asbestos insulation The second phase commenced November 3rd through December 20th 1951 when demolition continued including removal YMCA building directly west frontage off I5S; this structure served as home for various social welfare programs operated by state agencies prior thereto their closure during prohibition era but reopened after repeal Thereafter remaining homes were razed starting with Depot Kitchen which occupied site occupied by old Southern Pacific Railroad depot today known locally simply as “The Depot” next door fronts Market St&Third Ave NW wherefore housing continued eastward pastWhere currently stands Narrow St crossing I5 southwesterly boundary prior Wilshire Blvd occupies current site northwesterly boundary being border line between streets North & South

In 1848, a group of California gold miners discovered gold in what is now West Sacramento. This led to rapid growth in the community, and by 1856, it had a population of over 200 people. The Gold Rush period in California began in earnest in 1849 and quickly turned into a frenzy with miners arriving from all over the United States. By 1850, there were more than 2,000 mines operating in California. However, due to high costs and lack of infrastructure, many of these mines went out of business within a few years. As a result, West Sacramento experienced several decades of decline until it regained its importance as an agricultural center during World War II when local farmers brought production up to meet demand for food shipments across country. In recent years, however, West Sacramento has seen some resurgence thanks to new development and job opportunities tied to growing technology companies and startups. The town has also been designated as one of California's " jewels" by Governor Jerry Brown because it continues to thrive despite challenges faced by other communities statewide such as downtown Los Angeles and San Francisco.
