Since then, every officer has had their own bike gifted to them by someone at West Sacramento Police Department! The popularity of motorcycles has led to many adoptions by officers, with many bikes now being stored in our Police Museum within our headquarters building! West Sacramento is a city in California, United States. The population was 47,724 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Kings County after Sacramento and Half Moon Bay. West Sacramento is located in the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville metropolitan area. The first human settlement in present-day West Sacramento was founded by brothers John and Jacques Cousteau on October 17, 1847, as part of what is now known as Rancho San Miguel del Norte. The town became a dry goods depot for settlers traveling south from riverside cattle ranches near Placerville. A post office called Poston was established in 1849, and growth continued until 1865 when railroads arrived and transportation demand increased; accordingly, the town became an incorporated municipality. In 1871 the American Pacific Railroad reached West Sacramento and began to service it with passenger trains arriving from Stockton and Reno along its route to Promontory Point Station; this connection led to rapid development of downtown businesses which eastward travelers could access only by walking or driving over long distances. In 1870 Wm Hite built a sawmill on the eastern edge of town; this mill helped produce lumber that was shipped north to major cities such as Toronto and Milwaukee. By 1901 Wm Hite had replaced his mills with three larger ones – one producing 12 tons of lumber per day (the largest then available) while others processed coal, meat products, flour, bacon grease and other agricultural products; these operations employed more than 1,500 people at their peak production levels during the late 1800s boom period before World War I destroyed those industries completely. Steel production began in 1911 when Emmet Lumber & Mfg Co., successor to Wm Hite's company bought land adjacent to his old mill site; erection of a steel plant followed soon afterward but due to wartime difficulties completed only five years later due toahiice restrictions on military spending local industry went intoSlowdown until Afterwar ended capital outflow limited new investment spurring resurgence especially Due To Home builder interest following war end In 1955 City Council approved plans for annexation of portions of unincorporated Sutter County including parts of west central California vacated by troops during World War II who had been living there since 1946 because some officials felt they were necessary for flood control purposes; thus incorporation occurred effective January 1st 1956 providing city services without having to go through county government A gas station/convenience store opened up on State Route 93 near Interstate 5 about one mile east of Main Street in 1961 which would be flanked by residences on each side until 1978 when it burned down leaving behind extensive damage General Motors Corp.'s Corvair plant opened sites immediately south across State Route 93 next door beginning operation 1965 Frito Lay Inc.'smultifamily housing project Belmont Drive began construction nearby adjacent lot vacant since early 1960s Plans call for conversion existing convenience store into restaurant with outdoor seating

West Sacramento, California is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 24,811 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the East Sacramento River within the city limits of Sacramento. The name "West Sacramento" originated from its location on Rancho El Cielo and came about because it was on land that had been given to José Altadena by Governor Manuel Nieto in 1847. The first Europeans to visit what is now West Sacramento were Juan Bautista de Anza and his party on November 3, 1776. Captain Bligh and his British crew landed at Río Becilda on February 14, 1777 while exploring the San Joaquin Valley for passage to Mexico City. They named their landing place El Cielo after Rancho El Cielo which they found lying empty and abandoned near present-day downtown Sacramento. Captain Bligh's party spent four days here before continuing their journey northward along Río Becilda and arrived at Monterey Bay on February 18th. When they left California for England in August of that year they took with them all but one member of their shipwrecked group: Spanish navigator Antonio del Peralta who became a naturalized American citizen in May 1800 A few weeks later John Donahue set out from Monterey Bay with a small group of men under the command of Lieutenant James Shields to explore upriver into present-day Modoc County On July 10th 1779 George Vancouver sighted land beyond Cape Mendocino off the coast of Northern California along today's Yuba River . Commander Edward Cook sailed his HMS Resolution into Napa Harbor where he anchored December 12th 1779 under Nelson's orders while supplies were unloaded On January 25th 1800 Mexican forces led by Colonel Vicente Guerrero invaded eastern Oregon Territory claimed by Spain as part of New Mexico Territory including parts now known as Nevada and Arizona Commodore James Ketcham sailed his USS Discovery into Golden Gate HarborJanuary 26th 1800 seeking refuge from Spanish warships outside San Francisco Bay when he discovered an unknown object ashore He named it honors modern day Del Norte Strait between Point Reyes National Seashore & North Pacific Ocean . As tensions mounted between Spain & America over this discovery Nootka Sound would be leased from Russia January 8th 1801 while Alaskan territory was transferred to China January 9th 1802 giving Russians control over most of Alaska excluding Kodiak Island
