On February 10th Captain George Rawlings became Commandant of both Companies K & SV while Lieutenant Colonel George Matson assumed command of Company L (NG) on May 2nd 1912-1914 In 1915 three companies were organized as Infantry Battalions: A – commanded by Major Charles Folsom; B – commanded by Major James Pritchard; C -commanding officer Captains John Eilers and Augustus Gurney A detachment under Lieutenant Colonel Nathan Jewett became attached to Battalion A in 1915 before being reorganized into Infantry company I on October 15th 1916 The Company I designation reflected its activated status as an Infantry battalion rather than just a detachment whereas other units such as Battalion G had been activated cavalry units . It should be noted that unit histories vary somewhat due to this distinction . For example Battery D assigned to Independent Field Artillery Brigade Museum Sacramento does not mention having been activated as an Infantry battalion but rather associated with Cavalry brigade during World War I .
