Whittier is a small town in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 26,648 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Gabriel Valley. The name "Whittier" comes from two words: "wiht," meaning "boreal forest," and "trei," meaning "settlement." The first coffee beans were grown in this area in 1876 by José Miranda and his family. In 1898, Whittier's first grocery store opened. In 1907, Harry Majerus founded the First National Bank in Whittier. The Majerus family still holds an ownership stake in the bank today. In 1924, Donahue Brothers Coffee bought out Majerus' share of the First National Bank and made it their own bank subsidiary. Donahue Brothers Coffee continues to be one of Whittier's largest employers to this day. In 1949, Coca-Cola began production at their new factory on Imperial Highway in nearby Monrovia. At that time, it was the first bottling plant outside of North America . Over time more factories were built throughout the city including a plastics plant in 1957 and an auto parts plant in 1968 which remain operational today as Toyota Motor Manufacturing Co., Inc.. Although it is only a small town, Whittier has a rich history. The first European to set foot in the area was Pedro Menéndez de Avila, who explored and mapped the area in 1807. He named the settlement San Francisco after Commodore George Vancouver, who had visited California two years earlier. Whittier grew rapidly during the late 1800s as settlers came to populate what is now Northern California. By 1900, Whittier had over 1,000 residents and was one of the largest villages in California. During its heyday, Whittier boasted a school system that included three grades (K-8), a library with more than 2,000 items including books on both history and nature, and an opera house whose stage could seat up to 400 people. However, by 1920 Whittier's population had plummeted to just 100 residents due to economic factors such as Prohibition and World War I. In 1930, Mayor Harry Bridges created the Municipal Water District which served all of northern Californian municipalities within its boundaries. This led to increased development around town center due to easy access to water resources. In 1942, during World War II, much of what is now downtown Whittier was destroyed in an air raids raid that left many buildings without electricity or plumbing for many months afterwards. Despite this setback,Whittier continued to grow throughout the war years thanks in part to military construction projects such as the installation of radar towers and aircraft carriers at nearby Naval Air Station Miramar. The post-war period saw another growth spurt for WhittIER; most notably through expansions into new neighborhoods such asPoint Reyes Village and Midtown Heights which were developed parallel to downtown along major corridors such as Pico Boulevard and First Street respectively. Since then there has been significant redevelopment activity around town center with mixed uses - from luxury condos (Midtown Heights) through retail (Point Reyes Village) – while maintaining some traditional aspects of older districts like downtown block party nights or slow Saturday nightenos feels like part of village life today despite having less visible pedestrian connections between them

In 1845, Dutch traders brought coffee back to Holland after trading with India and Indonesia. By 1830, Java had become the biggest producer of ground coffee in Asia due to its location on an island near the Sunda Strait between Indonesia and Southeast Asia. In 1876, John Roemer started making his own espresso machines using water pressure and manual stirringbin operation instead of electric pumps like those used today. This innovation saved roasting times by 30 minutes compared to traditional methods such as mechanical stirring (which required hours of effort). In 1912 Alfred Peet founded what is now known as Peet's Coffee Company in Seattle Washington based on his invention of instant espresso drinks made from hot water heated until it boiled over into a foam-like substance called steamrolled milk which then became Pour Over Coffee - now know as Italian Roast Coffee! From these humble beginnings through many changes over time, there have been countless innovations that have helped make our favorite beverage even more delicious today!
The history of coffee is rich and long. It began to be grown and used as a beverage some 2,500 years ago. The first evidence of coffee being brewed is from the Sumerian city of Uruk in 476 BC. Coffee was first mentioned in China in 3rd century AD. The Arabs discovered Java Island in 825 AD and started trading with India for coffee. In 1536, Portuguese traders discovered Brazil and began trading with the natives for slaves. Coffee was brought back to Portugal by Ferdinand Magellan during his circumnavigation of the world in 1497-1498. In 1786, Dutch traders found an area on the Amazon River that would become known as Indonesia and begun trade with the locals for rice, oilseeds, spices, cloths and other goods. They also established plantations to cultivate coffee beans. The Dutch were successful in exporting coffee until their empire fell in 1945 when Japan invaded Indonesia.
Whittier, California is a town located in Inyo County, California. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Whittier, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name “Whittier” comes from an early Mexican land grant to Juana Sanchez in 1847. The first permanent residents of what would become Whittier were Europeans who founded the small community in 1848 as a result of gold discoveries in nearby Yosemite Valley. By 1870, over 50% of the town's population consisted of Anglo-Americans and Japanese Americans had also arrived during that same decade. One reason for this concentration was the availability of fertile land within a few miles of Whittiertown; outside development met only limited success until after World War II when housing prices began to increase and jobs became available throughout Southern California due to post-war suburban growth. Today, most people living in or around Whittier are descendants of those who made it their home during its formative years – many have married or raised children here since they were kids or young adults themselves. Historic downtown has been preserved as part of an effort to create a mini-village complete with retail stores and restaurants, while new subdivisions continue to be built on undeveloped hillsides just south and east of town center. Most importantly though, Whittonians continue to support one another through social media (Facebook®, Twitter®, Instagram®), email newsletters (eZine Newsletters!), family gatherings on summer nights at local golf courses (Fiesta Bowl BBQs) and even occasional church services served up by local pastors on Sundays morning—a rarity these days found elsewhere in Southern California!
Whittier, California was founded on July 1, 1853 by James P. Whittier and his wife Eliza C. Whitman as a town in the Unincorporated County of Los Angeles. The land for Whittier was donated to the city by entrepreneur and rancher George A. Smith in 1854, and the first building erected in Whittier was the Post Office on May 25, 1857. The whaling industry played an important role in early Whittier development, with several whaling ships moored at the wharf until 1865 when they were converted into steamboats and towed out to sea. The local Board of Trade operated a school from 1859 until it closed in 1897. In 1870, Whittier became one of three cities (the others being Pasadena and Los Angeles) incorporated under California's Act of November 15, 1850.
