The USS Constitution (not to be confused with the USS Constitution Museum) was a United States Navy ship that served in World War II. She was stationed in California and Nevada. Commodore Dixon felt that it was necessary for all ships based at Naval Base San Francisco including Constitutions essential work tasks such as weather observation and taking photos during World War II Operations North Africa and Europe so return Home should have been announced prior to codes being issued thus allowingConstitution Sailors who had accrued no days off since September 1st 1941 ashore proper rest without fear of yellow fever or any type of illness transmitted from Ships in S Fleet . Commodore Dixon concluded his decision after conferring with Rear Admiral Jesse Bogan . The only other ship afloat capable of harbor duties when Code Orange alert was activated was USS Enterprise (CV-6), which dockworkers nicknamed "The Flying Fortress" because she lacked an engine room which made her vulnerable to air strikes. A third store opened on February 3rd, 1874; it was operated by Isaac P Martens & Son (later known as Isaac P Martens Company). By 1886, there were six stores operating within town limits: three stores operated by J H Miller & Sons Incorporated (later known as Harry Miller Brothers), one store operated by John C Stroud & Son (later known as John C Stroud Company), one store operated by Isaac P Martens &Son (later known as Isaac P Martens Company), and one storeoperated by Edward Beardsley & Sons ( laterknown as Edward Beardsley Corporation). In 1903-1904, an electric light company called Edison Electric Light built two power plants within townlimits –one at First and Main Streets and another at Second Street –for use by local businesses during daylight hours only. Starting from 1905 onwards until 1933,[1] all business operations were conducted under cover of darkness using lights controlled from booths located throughout town at night time only.[2] During World War I,[3] most residents supported military service because they believed that war would benefit American industry more than any other reason.[4][5] However some residents did not want to participate due to social disruptions that would result from military training activities taking place within their neighborhoods[6]. After World War I ended early in 1918,[7] many citizens decided they did not need or want defense services so they stopped contributing money towards these programs[8][9].
