The United States Army was one of the first organizations to deploy gifts in World War II. In 1939, the USAAF (American Women’s Airforce) was formed as a result of an agreement between the War Department and American Airlines. The American women were given permission to purchase items for military use such as parachutes and rifles from their employers. The USAAF also started selling war bonds which they distribution among members. Beginning in 1941, the Army began sending gift baskets to member families with items such as cigarettes, cigars, chocolate bars, radios and other supplies. One of the most famous gifts given by the Army was a six-foot tall bronze statue of General George Smedley Butler located at Fort MacArthur in San Francisco. This gift was made in memory of Butler who had died during World War I.

Woodland, California is a small city located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 5,127 at the 2010 census. It is part of Fresno County. The name "Woodland" comes from the local oak trees that line the streets and driveways. The city was founded by General George Custer in 1876 as a cattle station on an area now known as Woodland Park. After he died in action at Little Bighorn, his estate was divided among his generals and friends and most of the land went to George Armstrong Custer's older brother, John A. Custer. With so much land available, Woodland became one of the fastest-growing cities in California during the early 1900s with its population increasing from 1,400 to 6,000 people within 10 years. In 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9396 which created Forest Service District No. 4 for all of Fresno County including Woodland Park and other areas west of Keepsake Canyon Road between Butte Creek and Yuba River valleys inclusive but not limited to those lying within what are now Tulare and Kern Counties or within any township or village therein excepting Sleepy Hollow Township in Los Angeles County where both Placer National Forest (north) and Ventura National Forest (south) are portions thereof; thus making it possible for settlement by Europeans of lands lying eastwardly beyond said boundaries within respectiveService Districts; this order being also supplementary thereto under Section 2(b) thereof; This order provided for erection by said district manager of woodlands Welcome Field Campground containing 600 acres thereon situate on Laurel Canyon Boulevard near Tujunga Avenue north side opposite movie theater operated by Regal Cinemas Inc.; immediately south side across Laurel Canyon Boulevard from same business operated by Warner Bros., Inc.; these campgrounds were later combined into one campground called "WelcomeField". It should be noted that Roosevelt's executive order did not create any federally owned forestlands within these districts - only Forest Service campgrounds were acquired through private donations/agreements between landowners/businesses adjacent to federal lands then subject to state management jurisdiction (and still are). This system continued until 1933 when Congress passed the Federal Land Policy Act which established national forests throughout all US states plus Alaska & Hawaii etc.. In 1935, due to this act's passage into law Amendment 8 enacted at CSU must comply with certain federal regulations regarding fire use including prohibiting burning off more than 20 percent tree height above ground! In 1941 World War II began when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor resulting in America entering war against Japan after several months neutrality negotiations failed leading president Franklin D Roosevelt issue an executive order establishing Army Air Forces West Coast Command headquartered at Elsinore CA with headquarters at Lakehurst NJ responsible for air defense over Pacific Ocean waters area bounded on three sides by San Francisco Bay--homeport for Douglas Aircraft Company--with New York City as its primary capital]]. On December 7th 1942 Joint Chiefs ordered bombing raids against Japanese positions along main shipping routes in East Asia starting with Chitose Strait off Hokkaido island followed rapidly thereafter By March 1945 only about 12% remained unoccupied Japanese military installations remaining]; Headquarters moved back to Elsinore late fall 1947]]. At present day there are no active USAF units stationed outside North America.]]

The history of Woodland, California is reflective of the many cultures that have inhabited the region. The area was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s and was later annexed by Mexico. In 1846, the United States acquired California from Mexico and established it as a national territory. The Californios (the English-speaking people who lived in California before Mexican annexation) began to arrive in significant numbers in the 1860s, and by 1870, most of what is now Woodland had been developed. The town of Woodland was founded on July 14, 1871, when a group of businessmen led by George Muller organized an expedition to explore a new route to Sacramento via Mount Shasta. The town was named for General James Fentonwood woodlands near Fort Mason which lay within Mexican control at the time. The area around Woodland grew rapidly due to its agricultural potential and became one of the largest towns in Northern California. By 1890, over 20 thousand people lived in Woodland with businesses exporting goods such as fruit, lumber, cheese and eggs to neighboring states such as Oregon and Nevada. However, during prohibition era (1911-1920), alcohol became an important part of local culture and businesses struggled against losing customers to prohibitionists. As a result of this struggle, many successful businesses closed down throughout the 1920s including JB Glass Company which became one of North America's first glass manufacturers; Gourd Cheese factory which ceased production after World War II; K&R Harvester company which merged with International Harvester Company; American Weighing Machine manufacturing plant located on Railroad Avenue; Anna's restaurant located on Capitol Street; and Roper grocery store located on Commercial Street). During World War II many residents relocated to Northern California because they were needed for military service or because there were no available jobs back home. After 1945 most residents returned home but some continued living in Woodland until its closure in 1978 due to population decline alone. Today much of what once constitutedWoodland has been replaced by development nor does it still contain any remnants from its past cultural significance
In 1868, the California Gold Rush began and soon after, a large forest was cleared in what is now Woodland. The first settlers in this area were Native Americans who hunted and gathered game. In 1876, entrepreneur James Irvine founded the city of Irvine on land that he had purchased from the Chumash people. The city quickly became a major transportation hub for goods coming down the Central Valley and into Los Angeles County. The city's first school was built in 1879, and by 1886 it had become the largest town in Orange County with a population of over 20,000 people. One of Irvine's most famous residents was Mayor James Mather who served from 1907 to 1916. During his time as mayor,Mather helped to create new parks such as Dodger Stadium and Hollywood Forever Cemetery. In 1920, when World War I started, many businesses closed due to military restrictions on exports; however, Irvine continued to expand rapidly with new businesses opening up such as an insurance company and a grocery store. In 1933, both Disneyland (then called Anaheim) and Walt Disney's Mouseketeer property were created within walking distance of each other in Orange County – which would later become one of the most popular tourist destinations in America. During World War II, much of what is now Woodland was used for munitions production at nearby White Sands Proving Ground; however, due to wartime restrictions on transportation it remained largely untouched until 1961 when then-Mayor Art Agnew designated portions of Woodland as part of Irvine City Limits
