The history of the Army in Woodland, California goes back to 1867. The first military post in the area was at Fort McDowell on theranch of Yuma River. It was here that General Marcy Post commandeered a wagon train and took his troops across the desert to build Fort Sill. The fort served as a garrison for many years, until it was abandoned in 1881. In 1892, General George Armstrong Custer left Woodland with his Seventh Cavalry to fight in the Mexican-American War. When they returned home, they established Camp Carson north of town. This camp served as an encampment for cavalryman during World War I and II. After World War II ended, Camp Carson became an army base and is still used by the army today. In 1967, Woodland voters passed a resolution asking President Lyndon Johnson to establish an army hospital in town. He agreed and founded Fort McDowell Army Medical Center four years later. Today, Fort McDowell is one of only a few army hospitals remaining worldwide open to civilians and military patients alike.

The rest of the area was given names based on nearby mountains or deserts: Humboldt County was named for Governor Manuel Nieto; Trinity County for Bishop Antonio López de Santa Anna; Kings Canyon for George Custer’s company; etcetera). Although much smaller than today’s Woodland Area, it did manage to develop some significant businesses and cultural aspects over time. For example, the first post office in Woodland opened in 1865 (it reopened in 1869 after being closed for a decade). Additionally, early settlers created an agricultural economy by growing grapes and other fruit crops as well as raising livestock (pigs were especially important here). Over time, these activities also produced different types of goods such as lumber (which was shipped away to famous mills like Yountville), cheese (made from milk products from sheep or cows), eggs (farmed at local hives), alcohol (distilled from sugarcane or beet juice) and tobacco (used primarily to produce cigars). However, despite its cultural significance – which includes several festivals each year – Woodland has only a fraction of the residents who live here today. This is largely due to two factors: First, because most people are born within commuting distance of major cities like Los Angeles or San Francisco; second, because many jobs have been relocated elsewhere since then – specifically related to technology and film production. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of interesting things happening here every day thanks to all that locals have done together!

In 1453 AD King Henry VI gifted his new French kingdom “Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes” (Southern Italy) comprising parts of today’s Lombardy region with its capital city Turin along with castles at Forli (now Forli Pieve), Cerveteri (Cerveteri Castello), Monferrato (Monferrato Castle), Spoleto (Spoleto Fortezza), Mantua(Mantua Fortress), Civitavecchia (Civitavecchia castle), Rovigo(Rovigo Fortaleza)and Arezzo(Arezzo Fortress). The king claimed this territory had been lost by his predecessor Charles VII following a bitter campaign fought by both sides more than 20 years earlier! Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes would eventually become part of France after Napoleon Bonaparte's victory over Austria at Waterloo 1815!

The history of Woodland, California can be traced back to 1849 when the first European settlers arrived in the area. The land that would become Woodland was purchased from the Native American tribe by Captain James Watt and his brother-in-law, John Sutter. The Watt family developed a small ranch here, raising livestock and harvesting trees for lumber. In 1856, Captain Watt sold his ranch to James Irvine who named it Irvine Valley after himself. In 1907, Woodland became part of the newly formed County of San Bernardino. With its large population growth and new infrastructure development, Irvine Valley saw rapid development throughout the early 20th century. During this time, businesses such as banks and grocery stores flourished while homes were constructed on large tracts of land north of town. One of the most significant events in Irvine Valley's history occurred during World War II when over 4,000 residents enlisted in military service and many saw action in Europe or Japan. The war led to an increase in housing prices which began to affect Woodland as well. By 1952, only a few remaining agricultural properties remained within the boundaries of present-day Woodland City Limits while much oftown had been annexed into other larger municipalities. Since then, Woodland has seen mixed success with various attempts at redevelopment including efforts at becoming a resort city; however these have all failed to gain traction due to difficult zoning laws and lack of support from government officials. Today, much focus remains on supporting local businesses and creating opportunities for outdoor recreation within easy reach for both locals and tourists alike.
The land that is now Woodland was originally part of the Shasta County area. The county was organized on February 3, 1851, and its first government official was Sheriff George H. Prentice. The first post office in Woodland was established on October 15, 1852. In 1855, a sawmill and grist mill were built in what is now downtown Woodland by J.B. Griggs and Son Limited. In 1860, a wagon road from Sacramento to Redding crossed the northern end of the present-day town of Woodland. On January 17, 1861, Gold Rush pioneers James Fenton and his party started for Redding on horseback with goods they had taken from the Mission San Francisco de Asís in Northern California. They reached their destination about two days later after traveling over parts of today’s Union City and Scott Valley before finally reaching Redding on January 23rd following an arduous route through some very rugged terrain including areas now known as the Fenton Hills within today’s Richfield Township (now Stockton)
