The Yorba Linda Army National Guard was formed in 1933, and has served in various roles throughout the years. In 1948, the Guard joined the United States Armed Forces as a full-time military unit. The Guard has since fought in numerous wars, including World War II and the Korean War. Today, the Guardsmen are part of the US military's largestunit--the Marine Corps Reserve--and serve as an important layer of defense against terrorism and other threats to national security. In 1945, Mayor Harry Sisk set up a housing authority to provide affordable housing for civilians living in Los Angeles County after the war ended. Over time, downtown Yorba Linda deteriorated and became an eyesore due to lack of attention from government officials. However, community activists have worked to improve downtown since then.
