Yorba Linda, California is a small city located in Orange County, California. The population was 812 at the 2010 census. The name Yorba Linda means "Goat's hair" in Spanish. The area now known as Yorba Linda was first inhabited by the Kumeyaay people who named it after their shamanic god Yoriachua (meaning "the place where the goats have their hair"). In 1821, recognition of this area as part of Rancho San Antonio de la Laguna led to the construction of a post office here by Captain James Cook and his men on October 15, 1821. The first settler in Yorba Linda was Mrs. Jane Addams who arrived with her husband John Addams in 1825. The City of Yorba Linda was incorporated on February 3, 1905. On December 5, 1915, during World War I, Japanese soldiers burned down the City Hall which had been constructed for military use only six months earlier and replaced it with an Army barracks which served until 1951 when it became home to Riverside Memorial Hospital and then to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center (now UCLA Medical School). During World War II, parts of town were bombed by American forces including napalm raids that took place on December 6th 1941 and January 9th 1942. On November 3rd 1913 voters passed an ordinance authorizing the erection of a library within ten years - moved from one location near downtown to its present site adjacent to County Park in 1917 when county government merged with Orange County. President Franklin D Roosevelt made cameo appearances at two library openings - one on May 7th 1935 attended by Governor Earl Warren – followed by another appearance on October 1st 1946 just before his death following a heart attack at Hyde Park Corner House while addressing residents gathered there for Christmas dinner; both speeches were recorded and are preserved as public records today. In 1957-1958 developer Jack Sprague began construction on what would become Primm Mall - now home to Macy's department store and dozens of other businesses including Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Inc., Applebee's Restaurant & Tavern and many more since demolishing much of what had once been called “The Day Care Center” behind it along Euclid Avenue between First Street and MacArthur Boulevard; little did he know that over time most all but one business associated with that day care center would close or move out – leaving only Lovejoy’s Department Store still standing today! In 1991–1992 Measure T designated approximately 176 acres east side of Main Street between Irvine Boulevard/Euclid Avenue Fulton Road as Arroyo Seco watershed property; now used for agricultural purposes principally cattle grazing although some residential development has occurred along Fulton Road within watershed boundaries; prior thereto Arroyo Seco Creek corridor had been used primarily for water supply storage race courses designed primarily for horse racing operations dating back to before 1850s A new high school opened fall 2008 in nearby Diamond Bar High School vacated by Corona del Mar High School after 49 years serving students from that community which closed due to budget cuts brought about by Mayor Gavin Newsom’s administration
Yorba Linda was founded in 1887 by John Sutter and his wife, Emmeline. The town is located on the banks of the Sacramento River, about a mile east of downtown Sacramento. In 1898, it became part of the City of Sacramento. In 1916, it became a county seat and was renamed Yorba Linda.
