The history of Yorba Linda can be traced back to 1887 when three brothers - John Yorba (1856–1922), Harry Yorba (1859–1937) and Maurice Yorba (1863–1938) - founded Blackhawk Rancho Santa Anita near present-day Crystal City Boulevard and Sorrento Valley Road in what is now Orange County. From their rancho they developed a small town that became known as "Yorba Linda". In 1913 they sold their land to the City of Los Angeles for $2 million. In 1922 John Yorba donated land east of downtown to form Riverside Park which today houses both Memorial Stadium and Angel Stadium II football fields; it was also home to then-NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center from 1958 until its closure in 2011. Two years later Harry bought part of the park from the City for $1 million and donated it to the University of Southern California as Orinda Hills Park; this acreage forms today's UCLA campus boundary north of Interstate 215/Newhall Street between Ventura Boulevard and Northridge Boulevard. Maurice took over his father's portion of the park land east of Orinda Hills Park within two years after donating it; he built what is now known as Lakewood Ranchos Golf Course on much of his donation before selling it in 1938 to Leland Stanford Jr., son of founder Leland Stanford Sr.. The name "Yorbra Linda" originated with these landowners who named their community after Mount Diablo – although there are no mountains named Mount Diablo in Northern California – so that people would not confuse it with Berkeley or San Francisco deep down within our state borders! During World War II most residents worked on military bases located nearby such as Glendale Municipal Airport (now El Camino Real Airport), Monrovia Municipal Airport, or Cal State Fullerton which opened up during 1942-1945 when large numbers servicemen were needed for war production overseas at nearby automotive plants like Kaiser Aluminum Company or Ford Motor Company factories across America where employment opportunities were scarce immediately following Pearl Harbor but quickly increased once hostilities ceased due largely to wartime rationing goals set by US President Franklin D Roosevelt under Executive Order 9981 which called for all civilian industrial production within ten days' notice regardless if any peacetime businesses were involved! Many local families also participated actively in relief work throughout southern California during this time including those living along I-215/Newhall Street corridor from Anaheim through Huntington Beach then Long Beach where thousands gathered around Donnybrook Naval Air Station prior to early 1945 bombing raids by Japanese forces seeking revenge against American citizens killed or wounded during Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor just southward along I-215 near Mt Hope Wilderness Preserve !!
