The Naval Base in Yorba Linda, California is home to the United States Pacific Fleet and it has been a part of the country’s military for over 100 years. The base was founded on December 12, 1853 as San Francisco Navy Yard and was first used to ship supplies needed for the war with Mexico. In 1907, the navy built its present headquarters on Point Alcalde in Yorba Linda. It was here that Rear Admiral George Dewey welcomed America into World War I. After the war, Commodore John W. Richardson took command of San Francisco Navy Yard and renovated it into a naval base housing various warships such as USS Constitution (1898-1901), USS Maine (1905-1907), USS Lexington (1920- 1923), USS Yorktown (1943-1945) and USS Enterprise (CVN 75/76). In 1969, then Vice President Spiro Agnew announced plans to close San Francisco Navy Yard due to budgetary problems. However, Congress soon appropriated $4 million to keep the yard open so that new vessels could be built at another naval yard in Norfolk Virginia. The first ship to be built at Yorba Linda Naval Base was HMS Ajax on October 10th, 1970. This made it possible for America to maintain a presence in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War while also helping defend against any potential attack from China or North Korea. As time passed and more ships were added to the fleet at Yorba Linda Naval Base, so too did gift history become intertwined with this facility. In 1978, Admiral John Halsey became Commandant of United States Marine Corps Forces Southern California when HeadquartersMCFSC left Northern California for Okinawa Japan where he would serve until his death two years later on January 20th 1980; at which point Marine General James Mattis assumed command of MCFSC becoming Task Force 77 Commander responsible for all UAS activities within 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade(CENTCOM). Yorba Linda is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 78,916 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Contra Costa County by population and the second-largest city in Northern California. The city's name comes from two ships that docked there during World War II: the USS Yorba Linda (AO-5) and USS Sacramento (CA-8). Both vessels were used to collect radioactive waste from nearby mines. The City of Yorba Linda was incorporated on February 17, 1948. The history of Yorba Linda goes back to 1853, when Captain John Hanchett founded a trading post on what is now known as Point Conception Bayou. He named the site after his adopted hometown of Yokohama, Japan. In 1876, Captain George Ayer granted land for a town site on Point Conception Bayou opposite Hanchett's original location. The town was called San Rafael de Asís and had a population of about 20 people. On November 15, 1951, voters approved an ordinance establishing the City of Yorba Linda as an independent municipality with its own police force and taxing authority. On January 1, 1952, Mayor JOE MONTGOMERY declared it "City of Opportunity" and renamed it "Yorba Linda". On July 25, 1957, voters approved Measure T which provided for annexation by neighboring San Ramon Valley Municipal District No. 2; this annexation created present-day Orange County and made Yorba Linda one of four cities within that county’s boundaries – along with San Ramon Valley Municipal District No. 1 (Irvine), Walnut Creek (Fremont), and Irvine Hills ( Newport Beach ). In 1970–71 an effort to annex Chico resulted in a lawsuit filed by that community against both local governments; Chico ultimately withdrew its application to join the new city limits but remains cheekilyAttention seekers should note that this “Chico” never really happened – instead much smaller Rancho Cucamonga annexed it in 1978 while still claiming jurisdiction over all three municipalities within their borders! Yorba Linda, California is a city in the Central Valley of California. The population was 54,869 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay and forms part of the East Bay Municipal District which includes Oakland and Emeryville. It is adjacent to Richmond County on the north, Contra Costa County on the east, Alameda County on the south, and San Mateo County on the west. The first Europeans to visit Yorba Linda occurred during 1776-1777 when Captain James Cook sailed past latitude 37° N and longitude 122° W while exploring what is now British Columbia. He noted that there were "a great many small villages" along both coasts of present day California but no permanent habitation save for a few scattered Mission settlements (Pomo people). In 1846 Isidore Sheehan discovered gold near where Yorba Linda now stands while prospecting for mines in what is now Contra Costa County; he named his discovery Gold Hill after then-Governor John Blyth's old ranch near Sausalito where he had been living with his family since 1835. Sheehan soon abandoned his claims as gold prices fell and by 1850 he had sold all his holdings in Gold Hill to John Drysdale who renamed it Yerba Linda after one of his daughters who later married an American businessman, George Ayer (1801-1885). A post office called Yorba Linda was established at this location on March 2, 1852. The town became incorporated as a city in 1909. On October 15, 1916 voters approved annexation by Berkeley making it one of two cities within Berkeley City Limits; however incorporation was repealed by Proposition 8 which won by referendum that year. In 1970s Yerba Linda attracted attention from developers because its undeveloped areas were ideal for housing developments such as Applebee's Ranch Park which opened in 1984 across from downtown with more than 1 million square feet/491 hectares developed over 16 years including 4 shopping centers/megaregions: Silicon Valley Plaza I(1986), Willow Glen II(1988), Applebee's Ranch Park III(1990) and Post Oak I&II(1992)]. However these developments have generally been replaced or are being replaced by larger apartment complexes or single family homes rather than businesses or retail spaces that would support pedestrian traffic etc.. It has also seen some high profile arrests including those made involving Oakland Raider quarterback Darren McFadden during protests outside Oracle Arena during their game against University of Southern California Trojans on September 25th 2014 riots following Super Bowl XLVII championship game victory over New England Patriots
Yorba Linda was founded in 1887 by Captain John C. Fremont and his men on the land that is now Yorba Linda County. The name means "the river port." The town grew quickly, and soon had a post office, store, hotel, and other buildings. In 1907, the first school in Yorba Linda opened. By 1913, there were also a few churches and a small number of homes. In 1916-1917, the town built a new jail to replace an old one that was destroyed by fire. The 1920s were difficult for Yorba Linda because of World War II. The town lost many jobs due to the war effort. But because of its location near San Francisco Bay, it continued to grow after the war ended. In 1951-1952, Yorba Linda built a new library which became one of the largest in California.
