Yuba City, California (formerly Eureka) is a city in the Central Valley of California, United States. The population was 491 as of the 2010 census. It is part of Fresno County. Yuba City is located at an elevation of 4,567 feet (1,362 m). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Yuba City experiences hot and humid summers with average highs of 87 °F (30 °C) and lows of 44 °F (−9 °C), while winters are mild with average highs around 41 °F (−10 °C). The city averages about 1.8 inches (39 mm) of rain per year. The area now comprising Yuba City was first populated by Native Americans in the 18th century when traders from Russia and Siberia made contact with Mission San Francisco de Asís on the lower Sacramento River. A mission was founded in 1797 by Franciscan friars under Father Junípero Serra, who named it after his patron saint, St Francis Xavier. In 1847 Yuba Creek was diverted southward following a flood that destroyed many nearby villages including those in present-day Redding and Visalia Counties; however, some evidence suggests that early settlers may have already been living there before this event. In 1851 John Sutter discovered gold near what would become Yuba City; he named the settlement Sutter's Landing after him. By 1870 all but one family had left for various reasons within five years due to low prices for gold miners' labor and lack of other opportunities in Northern California during that time period: yoking oxen to wagons to transport goods across country cost $2 each way back then which meant $40 total per team – not including feed or water! However even though there were no immediate benefits from Gold Rush era activity such as large numbers being born or businesses started hereabouts only a few hundred people continued living here through most if not all of the late 19th century & 1900s despite high population growth rates outside towns because much more fertile land elsewhere was available: agricultural production increased rapidly throughout these years leading to increased wealth & diversity within local communities traced back ultimately directly to Gold Rush era activities followed by ensuing waves of immigrants later on

The first permanent residents of Yuba City were the Mayas who arrived in 1847. The town was founded on the banks of the Feather River, about a mile from its present site. It was named for John Yuba, an early settler and member of the California Assembly. The first post office opened in 1853. From 1861 to 1868, Yuba City was part of Butte County. In 1865, it became part of Sierra County. On January 1, 1870, it became a city with a population of 524 people. Yuba City experienced significant growth during the late 19th century due to its strategic location as a key transportation hub for trade between Napa Valley and San Francisco Bay Area. Manufacturing businesses developed in Yuba City during this time including breweries and flour mills; these industries produced goods that were shipped directly to markets throughout the Bay Area. In 1932, when Sierra Countys merged with Alameda County to form California’s new Central Valley, Yuba City remained an unincorporated community within Alameda County until 1954 when it became a city under State law. During World War II, many Japanese Americans living in Northern California were interned at Camp Wallace near Sacramento; however, few if any residents of Yuba City participated in this concentration camp because they were forced to work nearby on farms or build barracks for soldiers stationed in the area. After World War II ended and most Japanese Americans had been released from prison or camps across America, some citizens decided that it would be healthier for their community if they withdrew all nonessential personnel from downtown- which they did on July 15th 1946; accordingly renamed “Yubaisi” after Mayor J H Sobel (1912-1996). In recent years much attention has been given to revitalizing Downtown Yuba City which is associated with many interesting aspects such as its rich history and architecture dating back over 100 years; however much progress has not been made despite numerous attempts by various entities such as local government officials and business owners alike since 2005-2006 targetting this section of town specifically through several initiatives such as: seed money funding provided by Calaveras Foundation through its partnership with Lowcountry Brewery & Grill which leased space at 221 Sutter Street West; led programming event called “Downtowngets Dressed Up! A Night out celebrating today” held annually on Saturday nights throughout November featuring local fashion designers showcasing their latest collection inside Lowcountry Brewery & Grill since 2007 [which draws] nearly 100 guests nightly]; marketing campaign entitled “It Gets Better Every Day: A History Lesson About Our Local Community – What didn't kill us made us stronger” launched in fall 2006 featuring public education materials available free upon request from local historians free standing at various locations around town) have all failed at best while also creating more animosity towards individuals or organizations attempting to improve Downtown Yuba City status quo rather than engaging positively instead).
Yuba City was founded in 1859 as a small farming town in what is now the state of California. It grew rapidly during the Gold Rush, and by 1870 it had become an important railroad junction. Yuba City became a city in 1899, and has since grown into a major center for trade and industry.
