Yuba City is a small city in the Siskiyou County of California, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Fremont, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Yuba City was founded on November 15th, 1868 by George A. Sanchez and James H. Waddell as Jedediah Bogan's Rancho Yuba (later to become Yuba City). In 1876, American Pacific Railway built a line from Redding to Siskiyou County and named the line "Yuba". On October 16th, 1888 Jedediah Bogan died in an accident while working with his wagon train on the railroad near Redding. His death created a land dispute between his heirs and led to the creation of Kern County which included Yuba City. The first school in town was established in 1870 by Mrs. Lillie Morse with three students enrolled in Spanish class taught by Mrs. Klingensmith out of her home on High Street until it moved to its present location in 1872 when it became part of Central School District No1 In 1914 Yuba City had a population of 675 people who were all farmers living off their crops that they raised themselves or rented from other farmers throughout central California It also had two breweries open for business: First National Brewing Company and Second National Brewing Company which closed their doors in 1920 due to Prohibition In 1924 Junior Chamber International organized a conference here called 'A Gathering of America' where delegates from twenty five countries discussed ways to improve trade relations among nations During World War II there were many military activities taking place around here including production centers for ammunition and shipbuilding On December 12th 1945 following Japan's surrender victory over Allied forces Lieutenant General Kiyoshi Shimomura delivered news that Japan had been defeated and all Japanese troops must leave within one week or face execution according as well as confiscation of all property they may have including any businesses or homes they may own The last resident left Yuba City on May 3rd 1951 after more than fifty years being citizens
