Yuba City is located in the Central Valley of California, about an hour’s drive from Sacramento. The city was founded in 1868 by James Fenton and his family as a small farming community named after the Yuba River. Today, Yuba City has a population of over 105,000 residents and is the largest city in central California. The city is known for its agricultural production, including crops such as corn, beans, cotton, and rice;its downtown area is home to severalaurant and shopping districts;and its natural beauty includes nearby peaks such as Mount Shasta and Mount Whitney. The history of Yuba City begins with the arrival of Europeans in 1868. James Fenton arrived in 1853 from England with his father John Fenton and brothers George and Michael. In 1868, Fenton purchased land north of Sacramento on which he erected a small farmstead called "Fentonville." He named the town after himself, since he had migrated from Yorkshire (now England). The first post office was established in 1869, and Yuba City became an incorporated municipality on May 2 that year. By 1870, most of what is now Yuba City had been developed as farmland around what are now three large lakes: Buffalo Lake (northwest of downtown), Crystal Lake (southwest of downtown), and Highland Lakes (southwest of town). In 1907–08 when Glenn Curtiss made his first flights at Burbank Airport some miles northeast of Yuba City on December 7th – 11th during World War I – many people thought that this new airport might be just a short-lived novelty like other airports being built at various points across America during that time period. However soon afterward it became clear that Burbank Airport would become extremely important due to its location midway between San Francisco Bay Area cities BART commuter rail service came into operation right next door making it easy for people living near San Francisco to get to work or visit friends while those living further east could still use BART trains but only if they were very lucky enough to have an available seat! Yuba City is located in the Central Valley of California, about 100 miles north of San Francisco. The city was founded in 1867 by John Sutter, a gold prospector, and his wife Mary Leland Sutter. In 1868, Yuba City became the capital of California and it has since been the most populous city in Northern California. The first inhabitants of what is now Yuba City were Native American people who lived there for centuries before European arrival. Their language and culture were retained until the early 1900s when white settlers started arriving. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Yuba City were Frenchmen who landed onsite in 1827. They named the area Nouvelle-Aurillac after their homeland, Aurillac, France. In 1846, when California was admitted to the United States as a state, Yuba City became part of Nevada Territory because no other territory had been given to it. After Nevada Territory was reorganized into counties in 1861, Yuba County was created within it and remained so until 1850 when it was organized into District 1 of Sacramento County. As Californias population grew during this time period, so too did its economy which led to various attempts at land acquisition by individual farmers or businessmen including James Wolkentin who purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) of Rancho San Lorenzo from Juan Mora y Salinas for $10 per acre ($2 million at current prices). However, Wolkentin only received title to 50 acres (20 hectares) out of the original 640 acres (250 hectares). Although he attempted to build a ranch house on this land as well as develop it for agriculture and other purposes including grazing livestock later known as Wolkentin Rancho Northridge), he never completed any such projects due to lack of funding or political interference from local leaders with connections to Sacramento County’s powerful politiciansfolk networks that managed aspects such as land purchases throughout much southern California during this time period.
