The department was first staffed by volunteer firefighters from outside of town. In 1902, the city council designated a park adjacent to First Baptist Church as the “Volunteer Park” and dedicated it to firemen and their families. The park became an annual event that raised money for local charities. In 1916, the city council passed an ordinance establishing a military section within the city government and naming it the “Yuba City Volunteer Defense Force.” At first, members of this force were just civilians who helped out with medical evacuations during World War I. However, soon enough, members of this force began engaging in combat operations against enemy forces. By 1919, they had become known as the “Yuba City Marines” and were responsible for conducting raids throughout southern California looking for enemy combatants. In 1924, they transitioned into a Regular Army unit and became known as “The Yuba City Regiment” before finally becoming part of World War II’s U.S. Marine Corps on September 2nd, 1944 under command of General Dynamics Corporation (GD). As part of GD’s war production program, The Yuba City Regiment produced over 1 million barrels of gasoline oil per day which was used to power warships at Pearl Harbor during World War II. On December 12th 1945 when Japan surrendered following their surrender announcement over Radio Tokyo station KMOX-AM 640 kHz., all units in attendance including The Yuba City Regiment came home honorably through ceremonies at Yokohama Bay Naval Base where Rear Admiral Halsey delivered his famous speech calling for Japan's unconditional surrender which ended World War II without any combat casualties on American soil!

One hundred years later, much of this core business district still stands today - with many original buildings still standing including the old State Capitol building (now occupied by Yuba Community College) and Firestone Tire & Rubber plant on Catastrophic Hill Road east oftown center). In recent years, however, much progress has been made to redevelop downtown - largely due to private investment led by local entrepreneur Dean Holmberg. Downtown retains its historic character while current construction projects bring more modern amenities such as a library/museum complex and Several restaurants/bars along First Street between Broadway and Sacramento Streets - making it one of busiest areas in town! As an agricultural center since about 1850, Yuba City once relied heavily on irrigation systems operated by canals that brought water from rivers below nearby; these days only a few remnant canal locks remain extant along Catastrophic Hill Road throughout downtown core but there are several restored parks located elsewhere within town limits where you can see them if you happen upon them! Today’s agriculture production relies increasingly on large-scale hydropower development; this may be changing soon though as some developers are thinking about possibilities for developing large tracts of undeveloped water resources right here in town! The project was completed in 1904 and cost $1 million dollars. At that time, it was one of the largest public works projects ever undertaken in California.
