The Navy has a long and proud history in Yuba City, California. The city was named after Admiral James K. Polk and the ship USS Yuba (APD-5) was commissioned here on December 3, 1944. As part of World War II, the Navy activated the Naval Airstation at Yuba City and also built a naval dispensary here. In 1951, the first navy destroyer in California, USS Delta (DDG-101), arrived at Yuba City from San Diego Bay. She served as both a harbor guard vessel and an airlift squadron for troop movements up North during the Korean War. In 1966, USS Conestoga (CG-4) joined the fleet at Yuba City and she played an important role in training naval aviators for Operation Neptune’s Spear which led to victory against South Korea’s communist forces. The last warship commissioned by the Navy in California was USS John F Kennedy (CVN-77) on October 1, 1997 when she arrived at NAS Point Mugu nearUSCGC Triton(LPD-2). After her operations over many years with distinction through deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan she decommissioned on August 29th 2019

Yuba City is a small city in the Central Valley of California, about an hour and a half by car from Sacramento. The estimated population was 27,615 at the 2010 census[1], making it the smallest incorporated city in California. Yuba City is home to four colleges: Yuba College, Sutter Health School of Medicine, Marymount University and Ivey Business Institute.[2] The Verde River flows through Yuba City and forms its eastern border. The river's course also includes portions of the town of Corcoran and other rural areas. There are no major natural resources in or around Yuba City; however, there are some agricultural areas located near the city center that produce eggs, milk, cheese, bananas and other fruits. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Yuba City were travelling down the Verde River when they discovered Folsom Lake on July 7, 1846,[3] which would later become Corcoran County. The area that would become Yuba City was first inhabited by Native Americans who hunted game including deer, bear and turkey. In 1848 two Spanish Engineers named José María Ortiz and Vicente Rivera decided to build a road from Tulare County northward through present-day Fresno so they could trade goods with their Mexican counterparts in San Francisco Bay Area. They named their new settlement Paso del Norte after this point on the route where it crossed the Naca Río de la Plata (now known as Feather River).[4]

The first post office in Yuba City was established on December 3, 1872, by George Waddell. The present post office building was built on May 1, 1912. The first school in Yuba City was opened in 1870 by Reverend James Leland Pritchard and Mrs. Elizabeth Donnellan Pritchard with five students. In 1907, the school district moved to new buildings which served as the first high school and graduate gymnasium for the community. On September 30, 1957, the city became an incorporated city following passage of a state law that allowed incorporation of cities with a population over 20 thousand residents An important event associated with Yuba City's history is its role as host to both World War II military training camps (Eighth Mountain Training Camp from 1942-1945) and later reunification ceremonies marking Japan's reopening of diplomatic ties with America following World War II .
The first Europeans to visit Yuba City were the Spanish in 1821. The first permanent residents of what is now Yuba City were the United States in 1850. The town was named for General John C. Fremont, who commanded a brigade during the Mexican-American War.
