The Coast Guard has been in operation in Yucaipa, California since 1912. The first station was built on the current site of the Yucaipa County building in 1912. The Coast Guard Station Yucaipa is a National Historical Landmark and currently home to the Museum of American History. In 1916, the Coast Guard erected a lighthouse on Point Conception in Yucaipa. In 1926, a second lighthouse was built at Point Lobos and this tower still stands today. Additionally, from 1932-1940 two radar towers were constructed at Point Conception and Atwater respectively. In 1951, the Coast Guard erected a pier that now serves as their Headquarters Building and Pier Area in Yucaipa. In 1969, another radar tower was added to Point Conception providing additional warning capabilities for coastal communities aroundYucaipa Valley. Yucaipa, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Yucaipa is known for its wineries and vineyards. The name "yucaipa" means "river of yucca." The first people to live in what is now Yucaipa were the Ohlone Native Americans. They hunted and gathered food near Yucaipa Creek. In 1836, Mission San Rafael de Asís founded a mission in Yucaipa Creek Valley. When gold was discovered in nearby Tulare County, people from Yucaipa started coming to Tulare County to prospect for gold. In 1849, the United States sent an expedition under General John Custer to seek out gold at Lassen Volcanic Field on Mount Shasta near present-day Redding CA. After some exploration, General Custer decided that he could not find any gold there and returned home without finding any wealth worth exploiting. A group of Californians led by James Waddell went back and found some rich nuggets on November 7th 1849 while they were exploring the area around present day Mount Shasta called the Nininger District (now part of Redding). With this discovery, gold became a major focus of interest in Northern California beginning with San Francisco Bay Area entrepreneurs such as Jedediah Sutter who began buying up large blocks of land near Sacramento for mining purposes starting in 1850s

The area that would become Yucaipa was first populated by Native American tribes who hunted and gathered plants and animals for food. One of the earliest European explorers to visit this area was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, who visited in 1542. He named the place Santa Cruz de la Sierra after his patron saint, Santa Cruz de la Vega, in nearby San Bernardino County. In 1846, gold was discovered near what is now Yucaipa and soon thereafter many more settlers arrived to try their luck at mining gold near the new discovery. In 1858, John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort on an existing site north of present-day Yucaipa along the Sacramento River. This fort served as a headquarters for his Rancho Rinconada Adobe Mines Company which mined silver and other minerals around these parts from 1858-1862 . During this time period there were also several small settlements established throughout what would eventually become Yucaipa including Nueva Vista (now known as Happy Valley), Coyote Hills (now known as Corona Heights), Spanish Fork (now known as Russian Hill) and Bear Creek (now known as Covina). One important factor that contributed to growth within Yucaipa during this time was rail travel which made it possible for residents to purchase goods they couldn’t produce or grow themselves such as flour or butter from local farmers or ranchers south of San Bernardino County. In addition, various businesses operated outside of town such as a store owned by Wm Hargrave which sold groceriesdirect to local families; opera house performances were held at night at a ranch situated east of town across from where Interstate 5 meets Highway 168; bank branches were opened in Coyote Hills and Spanish Fork during this time period; blacksmith shops were also established along with several stores catering to both local needs and those traveling through these areas via stagecoach or wagon train bound for Northern California towns like Stockton or Sacramento respectively
