In 1853, the U.S. Navy established a Naval Station at Yucaipa in California to provide harbor and naval exercises for local sailors and Marines. In 1907, the station was renamed Naval Base Yucaipa and the present-day naval facilities were constructed on land that had been donated by Edwin L. Drake, who served as Mayor of Yucaipa from 1922 to 1928. The base became operational on December 15, 1918 when a squadron of battleships USS Oregon (BB-41) and USS Maine (BB-19) arrived at Naval Base Yucaipa under Commander James Wills “Jim” Browning. On May 6, 1919 Commander John Halsey delivered the first Commandant’s message from Yokosuka Prefecture Headquarters in Japan announcing United States entry into World War I. The first deployment of a Japanese military unit took place during World War I when Unit 731 arrived at Naval Base Yucaipa with 1,500 soldiers on September 12th 1915 under Lieutenant General Hiroshi Yamamoto. During World War II Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz visited Naval Base Yucaipa on October 21st 1941 where he announced the Axis Powers’ attack on Pearl Harbor which led to Japan's surrender two days later. After World War II ended, NavalBaseYucatan became an important repository for surplus supplies and equipment left over from American Warship operations worldwide until it closed its doors in 1974 after being replaced by Marine Corps Reserve Center(MCRC). MCRC reopened in 1984 as headquarters for Marine Corps Forces Pacific(MARFORPAC). MARFORPAC is now responsible for all Marine Corps activity within Southern California . These two deployments are significant because they marked the first time warships had ever operated together outside North Atlantic waters thereby demonstrating the potential these waters held for future combined wartime missions The Battle off Samar date back to November 16th 1944 when Japanese destroyer Soryu collided with American submarine Kiskake near Samar Island killing all aboard both boats USS Boise saw action off Leyte Gulf Philippines against Imperial Japanese forces between 1945 - 1946 making her one of only four submarines sunk during WWII by allied forces This event helped spark public interest in coastal defense operations throughout Southwest Asia which would lead directly to Operation Neptune's Spear eventually resulting in Japan's unconditional surrender ADMINSTERMENT OF THE UNITED STATES TO WORLD WAR TWO COMMISSIONING OFFICER ON JAPANESE MILITARY INTEREST AT NAS STATION MUNICH JULY 1945 USS Boise played an important role during WW2 escort duties primarily targeting airfields across Luzon Philippines area providing cover fire while providing underway replenishment resources such as torpedoes ammo etc.. As part of a hunter/killer team she successfully destroyed six aircraft carrier groups totaling over 100 airplanes over five months period ending November 30th 1945

Navy Deployed Gifts (NDG) are a special program that allows military members and their families to receive gifts during deployments. NDG is open to all service members and their families, regardless of affiliation with the United States Military. The program began in 2006 as an effort by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to improve communication between military members and their families while on deployment. Yucaipa is a small, unincorporated community located in Fresno County, California. As of the 2010 census, its population was 2. It lies on State Route 158 about 12 miles east of the city of Fresno and 3 miles southeast of the tiny hamlet of North Yucaipa. The town first appeared in 1868 when prospectors discovered gold near the present-day intersection of SR 158 and US 101. The first post office was established in 1870, and it functioned until 1903. In 1902, Yucaipa voters placed a $5 assessment on all men over twenty-one years old to fund public works projects such as schools, roads, and bridges. In 1916, Yucaipa became part of the newly created City of Fresno; however, it remained an unincorporated community until 1978 when it incorporated under state law. The current name honors Edwin HUGHES (1848-1921), who served as mayor from 1917 to 1921 and also helped establish what is now the Yucaipa Museum District
The first people to live in Yucaipa were the Ohlone. In 1821, Spanish settlers arrived and started a mission. The mission was abandoned in 1847 and the land became part of Rancho Los Nietos. In 1850, a group of Mexicans moved to Yucaipa from Santa Cruz County and founded the town of San Miguel de Tucumán. They named the town after their leader, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who had been executed by Spain for leading an uprising against Spanish rule in 1810. In 1909, Yucaipa incorporated as a city and soon developed into one of Southern California's most populous towns. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its proximity to the Joint Air Force Base/Yucaipa Airport. After the war ended, Yucaipa experienced somedeclining activity until it surged back during the late 1990s and 2000s with new development including several high-rise buildings such as The Biltmore Tower and The Palazzo on Main Street.
