Yucaipa, California is a small town located in the Kern County of Southern California. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fontana–Winchester, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Yucaipa is home to two shopping malls: One mall (Kern County Fairgrounds) and one park (Fairview Park). The village also includes several restaurants and bars, as well as a library and post office. The first people to visit Yucaipa were Mono Hidatsa in 1823. They named it after their acacia tree which they found near where they lived. A post office was established here on July 3, 1847. In 1850, Yucaipa became part of Los Angeles County when it was organized from parts of San Bernardino Valley and Riverside Counties. In 1916, Yucaipa received its own water supply from Springwater Dam which had been built by the Maytag Company to provide irrigation for their vineyards in nearby Monrovia. The dam continues to serve this purpose today with an intake at River Road and Temple Avenue and an outlet at 15th Street SW. On October 1st, 1920 Yucaipa became annexed by Pasadena as part of that city's annexation into Los Angeles County for a total population of 97%. On November 5th following Pasadena's incorporation into the City of Los Angeles all original residents within boundaries proposed by Newport Beach on December 4th 1905 were offered a choice between annexation into Pasadena or incorporation into Los Angeles; 98% accepted incorporation into Los Angeles while 2% remained within boundaries proposed by Newport Beach without any offer being given to them so they amalgamated with Pasadena becoming the second most populous municipality east of Orange County behind only LAX Airport according to 1950 census results Lackwit Brothers plumber shop opened up in 1927 right across from Sanger’s Drug Store which served as both businesses until 1984 when Sanger’s merged with Safeway
