BAIL completed development of both Curtiss JN-4 Skytrain fighter planes used by Air Service Command (ASC) during World War I while also building P-36 Hawk fighter planes used by Marine Corps Aviation during World War II In 1947, when separate services were merged into the US Army and Navy under President Harry S Truman, ASA became part ofmilitaryAir Forces structure within Pentagon which included Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Yucca Valley was a small, agricultural community located in southern California. The valley was formed by the erosion of mountains and sediments from the San Andreas Fault. Yucca Mountain is the highest peak in the area and is also one of the most isolated mountain ranges in Southern California. In 1867, Captain John Sutter discovered oil shale near Yucca Valley and named the region Yucca Valley after the high-quality shale he found. The first production at Yucca Valley came about 10 years later when a group of men under the leadership of John Rockefeller started extracting oil from shale wells in nearby Kern County. By 1903, alludes to natural gas were being produced at various locations in Yucca Valley as well as other parts of Southern California, giving rise to what is now known as petroleum extractionivism in Southern California. The town ofYuccaValley was founded on May 6, 1892 by Dr. Wm Hoke Dole and his wife Julia Dole during an attempt to improve irrigation for their orange orchards around Mount Wilson. They named their settlement after President James Kossuth's home state of Hungary (the original name for Hungary). When America entered World War I, dole decided against farming because he had no experience with war production; instead he set up a store that sold military supplies to local soldiers on his property. After America won World War I, dole resumed farming but lost much money due to high prices for food during wartime shortages; however, he continued to donate land to American Forces stationed throughout World War II until his death in 1948. In 1947, Congress passed Public Law 89-554 which amended United States Code § 923(a), authorizing Nevada Mines Commission mineral rights within 8 miles of any navigable stream or tributary thereof where coal or other minerals may be found underlying water resources bearing economic interest thereto….. [This law] became effective on October 1st who therefore acquired title both surface and subsurface claims over Coal Creek…. With this new legal authority authorization was given by Congress “to explore and extract coal seams” within said 8 mile limits without prior consent from Interior Department…….. [These] federal mining laws reflected not only congressional intent but also industry practices then existing which placed great emphasis upon strikes – that is workingcoal miners directly with companies rather than through open air prospecting…. Mining operations began immediately…………… In 1949 substantial further development occurred when two companies leased adjacent parcels from Drs Dole & Co., enlarged an existing mineunaided it with metallurgical equipmentand commenced processing coal into fuel briquettes
The Yucca Valley was a region in the eastern Mojave Desert of California, located about east of the city of Los Angeles. The valley was formed by two mountain ranges: the San Gabriel Mountains to the north and east, and the Kern Mountains to the south. The lower half of the valley is mostly flat, while the higher half has rolling hills that are covered in sagebrush and other shrubs. Inhabitants were nomadic people who used this area for grazing and hunting resources. In 1846, prospectors discovered coal seams in what is now Yucca Valley; however, it wasn't until 1852 that a group of men set out to find a way to transport these resources to market. They named their new town after General David Simonds, who had helpedlead them to their discovery. By 1857, there were over 50 buildings in town; however, it didn't do well until 1800 when gold was discovered nearby. After this event, mining activity increased in Yucca Valley; however, it wasn't until 1886 that an underground railroad was built to bring goods and miners down from Los Angeles County into Yucca Valley.
