When the United States Army moved into Yucca Valley in 1846, they were preceded by a Mexican army. The Mexicans had occupied the valley for years, and when they were finally pushed out by American forces in 1848, they left behind a garrison of about 120 soldiers and officers. The first U.S. military presence in Yucca Valley was small and short-lived. In 1852, General Winfield Scott ordered the construction of Fort McDowell to protect the valley from attack by Mexico. However, within a year of its completion, McDowell was destroyed by an earthquake that struck California at the time. It wasn’t until 1862 that the first permanent U.S. military installation in Yucca Valley was established at Camp Lewis near present-day Yuma City. At this point, America’s first wars against Mexico were coming to an end and attention had turned to other priorities such as defending California from Confederate attacks and blockading Santa Fe ports on the Texas border. In 1865, during the Civil War, Camp Lewis became home to over 6500 Ulysses S Grant’s Union troops who fought in what is known as “the Battle of Gettysburg” which resulted in 500 dead and wounded on both sides

Yucca Valley is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. It is located on the banks of the Kern River, a tributary of the Sacramento River. The population was 1,645 at the 2010 census. Yucca Valley was named after Yucca Mountain in central Nevada. Yucca Valley has been inhabited by Native Americans for centuries and it first became known as an agricultural area when settlers arrived in 1871. The community changed hands many times until it was founded as a city in 1959 by its current Mayor John Ladd and his wife Gertrude A.Ladd. The city's namesake comes from Yucca Mountain which is located within its boundaries. The downtown core contains several large buildings dating back to the early 20th century including the old Adobe Hotel and Post Office building built in 1910 which still stands today as one ofYucca Valley's most iconic landmarks Additionally, other notable buildings include: Stonington Savings Bank Building (1925), First National Bank (1948), Kern County Courthouse (1997), Community United Methodist Church (2006) There are also several smaller theaters and shops that dot the district living history buffs will appreciate such as Hope House Museum(1896) where exhibits cover history of early settlement & various kitchen items used during pioneer days; Chamberlin Glass Company(1898); McClure Bros.(1910); Joplin Glass Company(1920).

Yucca Valley, California is a small town in Inyo County, California, United States. It lies along the west side of the Kern River and is bordered by Yucca Mountain to the south, Mono Lake to the east, and Air Force Base to the north. The population was 582 at the 2010 census. The first humans in Yucca Valley were hunter-gatherers who lived there for about 10,000 years before they started cultivating maize. The first permanent settlement in Yucca Valley was made by Mormon pioneers in 1847. After statehood in 1850, Yucca Valley became part of Imperial County. In 1912 it became part of Madera County and then again Inyo County after it was merged with Kern County. Since its incorporation as a city in 1933, Yucca Valley has experienced rapid growth due to its strategic location within Highway 99 corridor and its many industries including aluminum smelting and textiles manufacturing. Today's downtown area contains more than 20 businesses including two universities - Northern Arizona University (NAU) and Bechtel Corporation - as well as three shopping malls: The Galleria Shopping Center (now Macy's), Gateway mall (now Sears), and Desert View mall (now JCPenney). Yucca Valley is located on both sides of the Kern River which makes for an interesting place to live because you can see both sides from your house or apartment windows! There are also lots of parks that are perfect for children to play in like Playland Park located across from Air Force Base; Huckleberry Ridge Park located behind Walmart; Big Bend Regional Park located east of Interstate 8; North Fork Regional Park located between I-8 & US 395; Red Hill Regional Park located southeast of I-8 near Iron Mountain Road; Soda Mountains Regional Park located southwest of I-8 near White Sands Missile Range National Monument
In 1853, the first post office in Yucca Valley was established. In 1875, a school for girls was founded. The first store in Yucca Valley was opened in 1903. In 1912, the city of Yucca Valley was incorporated and named after the valley.
