Yucca Valley is a small, rural town in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 3,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hanford metropolitan area. Yucca Valley is located on the eastern edge of the High Sierra National Forest and it straddles the sharp divide between Modoc and Mono counties. The settlement began as a series of scattered farmsteads in 1859 when wagon trains stopped at what is now Yucca Valley to restock their supplies before continuing their journey uprange to Lassen Volcanic National Park. By 1865, there were over 100 people living hereabouts. A post office was established at Yucca Valley in 1875 and remained in operation until 1915. The name Yucca comes from two Native American words meaning "place where no one lives" or "water that does not flow." The first written reference to Yucca Valley appears to be from an article in the November 20th 1876 issue of "Los Angeles Times". According to historian Don Easley, "It seems likely that George Washington Carver had something to do with its early development; he had been instrumental in helping found Southern Pacific Railroad east of Sacramento." In 1898, some prospectors discovered oil shale Beneath the Panamint Mountains and soon after began developing this potential resource into a thriving industry based around producing kerosene for lamps and automobiles. However, by 1907 production had petered out as technological advancements made oils more affordable than coal-based fuels and production switched instead to natural gas form Gasification Units (NGO's) which required much less land than kerosene plants did back then so developers could build homes closer to workforces while still benefiting from lower costs associated with NGOS manufacturing compared to traditionalcoal-fired power plants." In 1957 news reports started surfacing about new deposits of helium near Palomar Observatory which led directly thereto Angered Kuhlman Incorporated proposing drilling for oil but it took another decade for permits (and finally completion) for his Monterey LNG Project later renamed Imperial Refining Company's Kern River field - today known as Alpha Natural Gas Field - becoming operational . Finally beginning production operations on July 1st 1958 - almost 50 years after initial exploration commenced - Kern River became America’s first large Scale lignite fuel project! Today , Yucca Valley continues its role as a small town full of farmers & ranchers who have always relied upon agriculture & hunting/fishing opportunities available within it’s borders

Many stores and businesses were established here including: Jardin des Plantes nursery where Hana Kawa created her famous "Kiwi" fruit tree; Biltmore hotel; Chase National Bank; Post Office building (now First Methodist Church); Pacific Telephone Company; Paramount Pictures studios; and many more . In addition toYuccaValley's rich history, its topography is also noteworthy for its ruggedness and diversity: hills as high as 4,000 feet with valleys that run between them up to 3,000 feet deep! Today, much of what has once been part of YuccaValley is contained within watersheds managed by local agencies such as government land trusts or state water resources districts

The valley is located in eastern San Bernardino County and is bordered on the north by the Simi Hills, on the east by Upland, and on the south by Gaviota Peninsula.
