The Yucca Valley National Guard was founded on December 12, 1941, during World War II as the United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force. The guard was activated on February 14, 1942 and served with distinction in the Battle of Midway. On July 20, 1945, the Ninth Air Force was redesignated as the United States Army National Guard and the Yucca Valley National Guard became part of that organization. The 9th Air Force flew its last mission on October 15, 1945. On November 3, 1982, President Reagan signed into law Public Law 97-575 which designated all California counties as military areas for a period of five years from September 30 to June 30 of each year. During this time allYucca Valley National Guardsmen were transferred to these military areas and their unit insignia were changed to match those of the local units in those military Areas. On May 1st 1993 all Yucca Valley National Guardsmen were re-activated again as part ofOperation Desert Storm while they awaited orders from Commands in Riyadh Saudi Arabia and Kuwait City Kuwait concerning their deployment status within that conflict zone. When Orders came through they deployed successfully with honor being awarded to them by both commands during various ceremonies throughout Iraq including a visit by then President George H W Bush who presented them with an USS Abraham Lincoln Memorial Trophy at an event in Baghdad Iraqi capital on October 11th 1995 Since returning home following our deployment we have participated in numerous community events throughout our county always looking out for our fellow citizens and making sure they are taken care of when needed most like founding Our First responders program giving back to our County by providing free ambulance rides statewide forHurricane Harvey survivors just prior to landfall on September 20th 2017

In 1957, the state government donated land surrounding Yucca Valley to become the state's first open-pit uranium mine; however, this mine closed in 1978 due to environmental issues. In 2007, two years after it re-opened as a shopping center with new retail stores and restaurants called "The Great Mall", Yucca Valley had its worst year ever with losses totaling $1 million dollars reported by its mayor at that time Donny Youngbloods Jr.. In recent years there have been efforts made by local businesses such as "Crazy Horse" restaurant & nightspot to revive community spirit and bring more residents back into town but it seems like things are still going bad forYuccaValley
