The Coast Guard has been providing search and rescue services on Arvada Coast since 1891. The first organized coast guard service was founded in 1892 when a group of men from Denver organized to help local fishermen. In 1916, the Colorado legislature created the Colorado State Patrol as a provisional law enforcement agency for the coast. The Coast Guard Auxiliary was formed in 1934 and became an full-fledged agency in 1941. The modern day Coast Guard was established on May 25, 1947, with the merger of the Colorado State Patrol and the Auxiliary. Today, there are over 5,000 members of the Coast Guard across 73 states and Washington D.C., providing support for both search and rescue missions as well as maritime security patrols along our nation's coasts. Our mission is to protect America's coastline by preventing navigational hazards, rescuing stranded sailors, enforcing laws governing boating and coastal airspace, making it possible for people to enjoy their local environment while enjoying commerce shipping through our waters; all while keeping our citizens safe! One of most memorable aspects of Coast Guard history is that many famous individuals have served on or within this organization- including President Harry S Truman (1946), Admiral Samuel Lockwood Turner (1948), Rear Admiral Royal Pappas (1965), Vice Admiral Elmo Zumwalt (1972) and Commodore Ronald Lyden (1981). Additionally, many Governors General have attended Commanders' Conferences hosted by The Coast Guardsmen during their travels throughout the United States Capitol Building- making this one of North American military forces with serious civilian oversight! The Arvada Coast Guard Museum is the first Coast Guard museum in the United States. It was founded on May 8, 1969, by Captain Jerry Ritchie and First Lieutenant Donald Hogle. The museum was moved to its current location in 1984. The Coast Guard Museum has a collection of artifacts dating back to 1860. It also has a collection of uniforms and equipment from the 1920s to the present day. The Coast Guard Museum is open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, Sat 10am-4pm, and Sun 1pm-3pm; Admission is free for all visitors except for special exhibits and functions.

This watch was donated by his wife Kristin Haggerty and family friends Aaron Goudreau and Justin Ziegler along with many other friends and family members during an online auction held at Dayton’s Watch Company in Dayton, Ohio on November 15th, 2017. The proceeds went to support Second Lieutenant Haggerty’s recovery process after his injury in Afghanistan on October 1st 2017 which led him to lose his left leg below the knee due torapnel wounds received while fighting insurgents near Kandahar Province. Gift history isn’t limited just to watches though! There are numerous vessels that have been donated by donors over time including boat anchors (which date back over 100 years), motorcycles (vintage models being offered up for sale recently), planes (including two helicopters that were donated by Jimmy Carter), boats (both commercial and recreational) as well as military equipment like mortars, tanks, fighter jets,and more!
