The unit was first organized on July 2, 1861, when the Aurora Volunteer Infantry Battalion was formed to support the Colorado Territorial Legislature’s attempt to secede from the United States. When war broke out in August 1861, these soldiers were called into service and served with distinction through most of the Civil War. After the Civil War ended, many of these men returned home to serve their communities once again. But on October 1, 1871, one of these veterans—AJ McMaster—was charged with treason for standing up against US government orders during the Gold Rush days of San Francisco. This event led to McMaster’s expulsion from his regiment and automatic loss of pension rights. But this did not stop him from continued volunteering for national guard duty throughout Reconstruction Era America. In 1875 he was drafted into infantry service as part of the Utah Expeditionary Force under General Grant and fought at Monterrey, Mexico; Gettysburg; Chattanooga; and Savannah before returning home to resume his volunteer career in Aurora in 1876. In 1889 AJ McMaster became an officer with Company B (1st Colorado Cavalry) 3rd Regiment NGFD after serving as its adjutant general during his time in state service (1889-1900). He retired from active duty with that unit on November 5th, 1902 but continued to serve as a colonel commanding companies C-1 & C-2 until 1898 when he relinquished command due to ill health. After retiring from military service AJ McMaster moved back east where he died on December 12th, 1902 at age 87 years old.

In 1865 however President Andrew Johnson abolished all regiments within the Army due to concerns about disbanding units that had not fought in any hostilities since 1853*. As result*, most items from Company A’s jar became property of militiamen who used them throughout Reconstruction* until finally being disbanded by Congress in 1932*. However some items continued into current day use by members of both military & police departments around the country*) Today there is still no single answer to why certain items dating back centuries are often used by members of both military & law enforcement communities alike**. One theory suggests that these Items may symbolize patriotism or community service; they may also be seen as symbols of strength or resilience during tough times*.
