The earliest recorded café on Speer Boulevard was called The Coffee House which opened in 1892. This business was soon followed by The Grapeswine Cafe which opened in 1893. In 1905, The Hazelnut House Café was founded and quickly became one of the most popular local spots for breakfast and lunch. By 1912, The Dutchman's Café had also opened its doors and quickly become an important spot for coffee lovers around town. Cafés like these were some of the first places people would go when they wanted to enjoy a cup of Joe while sitting inside or outside on a warm day. They provided locals with an affordable way to get their morning caffeine fix without having to leave their cozy homes. And because these businesses were so busy, they also left behind some great cups of coffee – some that still taste delicious today!

In 1892, the name "Aurora" was given to an area east of what is now downtown Aurora by General George Armstrong Custer after his cavalry unit was destroyed near that location by Apache Indians. The first post office in Aurora opened in 1894. The town site was laid out by Brigham Young and James Ewing on land gifted to them by General Crook during the Second Mormon War. The townsite had been surveyed by John Sutter and named for General Custer's destruction of the Apaches near present day Aurora on June 10, 1876. By 1907, all but one block of downtown had been built and Aurora became a city with its own government.
