The Air Force deployed gift history in Brighton, Colorado on November 25th, 2002. The deployment was in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Brighton, Colorado is a city in San Miguel County, Colorado, United States. The population was 905 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Junction–Aurora, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Brighton is located on the edge of the Rocky Mountains and owes its name to its prominent light show from atop Mount Lemmon. The area that would become Brighton was first settled by Mexicans in 1867. In 1881, a post office called Brighton was established and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. A new post office called Brighton Springs was established in 1903 and remains in operation today. In 1924, David Haggerty started building a sawmill on the east side of town. By 1928, he had built a millrace that led to the Animas River where he began harvesting lumber for his mill. The mills became very successful and produced high-quality lumber until they were bought out by Bethlehem Steel Corporation in 1986. Brighton, Colorado is located in Southern Colorado and takes its name from the English city of Brighton. The town was founded by Scots immigrants in 1881, and quickly became a popular tourist destination due to its natural beauty and rich history. In 1907, the town incorporated as a village, and has since grown into one of the most thriving small towns in Western Colorado. The community has several commercial districts that are home to several thousand residents, as well as a variety of retail businesses and cultural venues. The town's rich history includes significant contributions from both Scottish and American pioneers who arrived here during the late 1800s. One such pioneer was James Morrison who settled in Brighton in 1881 after purchasing land south of Aspen on which he built his home called Morrison House. Another early settler was Alexander Forbes who arrived in Brighton in 1885 after moving from Trinidad. He started an engine workshop here before becoming a successful cattle rancher and later donated land for a new school district that would serve Brighton. In 1907, Brighton became the first municipality in Southern Colorado when it incorporation as a village under the guidance of local officials. This event helped solidify downtown as one of the most vibrant sections of town with businesses lining Main Street full of tourists eager to explore everything that this beautiful area had to offer. Over time, many other small towns have followed suit with their own incorporation ceremonies which have helped keep Brighton alive as an active community with strong ties to its heritage and people. Today, Brighton remains one of America's favorite tourist destinations due to its stunning scenery along Interstate 25A - easily accessible by car or bike - as well as its wealth of historical significance dating back to when these Scots immigrants starting settling here over 100 years ago! Brighton was founded in 1892 as a small mining town in the Arapaho Mountains. The first post office was established in 1893 and the town grew rapidly until it reached its current size in 1915. In that year, Brighton became the first settlement on the Durango-Aurora Railroad. The railroad made Brighton an important transportation hub, allowing goods to be transported from remote mines to nearby towns. The military played a significant role in Brighton's history during World War I. After the war, many of the miners who had worked at the old gold mines came back to work in Brighton and other towns along the railroad. The town continued to grow during this time and soon boasted several large factories and businesses. In 1948, Brighton became part of Castle Rock County and experienced another rapid growth period. By 1975, however, growth had slowed and Brighton officially became an incorporated municipality again within just five years. Today, Brighton is a vibrant community with a variety of businesses and cultural activities available for residents. The town has also become known for its annual Cherry Blossom Festival which celebrates springtime around May 1st each year.
